Has anyone done this excursion, and if so, would you recommend it for a family that's interested in history? I read it's about 7.5 hours, is it possible to do it and make it back to the early dinner seating?

Thanks,

Julie

I took my daughter on this excursion. She was 12 at the time. We loved it. It was very interesting. We had early dining also and made it back on the ship right before 4:30. Had time to clean up before dinner. It was a nice excursion. There are guides there if you want to "purchase" one or you can walk around on your own and explore by yourself. There are signs with written explanations around the ruins. The guides give their own versions. We were laughing at the variations of stories different guides told while we were on the bus ride back. Anyway, it was worth it; we were glad we went. If they still have the added beach stop on the trip - that was a waste because the time there was very rushed. I know of several families that were going to complain about that part (we did). There's a small beach spot at the ruins site that people used to cool off. That would've been fine for that trip.

DH and I love history and thoroughly enjoyed the excursion. We were back in time for early dinner. I agree with Trishy, beach stop was rushed and a waste of time. It is hot, though, so bring lots of bottled water. You will really enjoy it!

PS the book they offer you to buy is really very, very nice. If you like the Maya, it's for you.
