As the educational portion of our Feb. cruise it was suggested that we take DD6 to the Tulum ruins. What do you think... good or bad idea?

It's a VERY long excursion, a good part of it getting to/from there as the Tulum Ruins are on the mainland, not on the island the ship docks at. You need to be really sure she's not going to get bored with it.

That said, the excursion itself for anyone interested in the Mayan culture and archaeology this is a real do not miss.

Is she interested in this? I think it will be a long, hot day if she has NO interest in the Mayan ruins. I'm only saying this because my DS is 12 - and I have friends questioning my decision to take him...until I tell them that I'm not taking him - he's taking me!! :)

What about the Xaceret park?? They have a combination of authentic ruins, recreated ruins, Mayan dances, swimming...it's a whole park - and a lot more interesting...even if it isn't completely "authentic".

Sometimes that "education" has to have a little sugar on it! :)
