I don’t garden well, and my kids are begging me to plant a vegetable garden this year. The only spot I have to plant it is the backyard where I grow my Tulips. My question to all of you experts is..... Can I pull out the tulip bulbs before the stalk dies? I need to start ASAP and I really don’t want to hurt the tulips. I have already deadheaded (I think that’s what its called) the flower part, but the stalks are still green. I know I need to get the veggies in the ground last week and I knew you all would have the answer!! TIA

Hi noodles..you are better off leaving the leaves as they provide energy so the tulip can bloom next year..anyway you can work that veggie garden aorund the tulips?

Hey NOODLES - you could have just called me! (She's my SIL) You definitely need to leave the tulips until they turn brown. You could start your veggies in trays outside and then transplant them into the ground after your tulips die back. I'll even come over and help you...after next week :p

Thanks for the quick reply! I figured that was going to be the answer! I will just try and work them in between the tulips!
