This was just announced this afternoon - Harbourfest, the Tuesday night celebration at Shelter Cove where fireworks are initiated from a barge anchored in the marsh behind the DVC Resort, has been canceled due to the logistical impossibility of social distancing at the event. The SC restrictions on crowd sizes are still in place and there is no effective way to manage the large crowds attracted to the program over the past 32 years.
The program was supposed to begin tonight and last through August 18. As of yesterday, it was still planned with a delayed start date in July but the decision was made today to cancel the popular event.
