how can we do both tsmm and sign up for Jedi training? I thought they were both rope drop runs. We aren't staying on site, so we don't have any fp.

You don't need to stay on site to get fp+s. Onside guest can book fp 60 days in advance. Anyone with a ticket can book fp 30 days in advance

I know, I guess I'm just assuming all of the tsmm fp will be gone b4 30 days prior to my trip. We are going the week after thxgiving. What would be another strategy to do both in the same day?

You will not have problems getting TSMM at 30 days. Even at peak (crowd level 9-10) TSMM is available until 7-10 days out. If you don't get FPs in advance then you should head to Jedi Signups immediately at RD and then go to TSMM as soon as you are signed up. Best case that will give you about a 20-25 minute standby line for TSMM, worst case scenario you will be looking at 45-50 minutes standby at that time. The Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving are BUSY, but once you hit Sunday it slows down. The week after Thanksgiving is actually slow and one of the best times to be at WDW. Some standby lines are unavoidable at WDW regardless. You shouldn't be scared of a 30-40 minute for one or two must dos. Disney does a great job of developing awesome ques with amazing themeing
