TSM Single Rider Line Gone For Good?

That's too bad if it's true. Having seen the crazy crowds at TSM at WDW it's difficult for me to imagine how DL does it with no fastpasses on this attraction. I was planning on taking full advantage of the single rider line.

When we were there in November the Single Rider Line was closed every time I checked.

One afternoon I was given this by the CM at the entrance:

I didn't ask for it, didn't ask about the single rider line, nothing. Actually I wanted to trade pins with her.

I have no idea if this is their way to make up for the loss of the single rider line or if it has been randomly distributed all the time and I just never heard of it. :confused3

I just thought I'd mention it, maybe someone knows more about that stand by ticket thing.

I've never seen those passes at TSMM Vala. And we trade pins with the CM's there all the time. :)

We used the SR line only a couple of times when it was just DBF and I, and I think once with the girls. We don't use it much tho, we would rather ride together then seperately. :)

I've never seen the pass, but we had a group come in right in front of us at the bypass gate when we were there on Sunday. Frankly, it was a bit irksome, as we had waited in a 45 minute line with an antsy 4 yr-old [his birthday and no one told him that acting like a 3 yr old was out of style :lmao:] only to have some people who, for whatever reason, didn't have to stand in the queue. Don't get me wrong, maybe they waited elsewhere....but I have to say that I would have liked to have waited "elsewhere" as well.....

I didn't even get to trade pins with her. She asked me "how many in your party?" before I could even open my mouth to ask her if I could see her pins. And after she gave me that thing I was way too stunned to think of pins. I had never heard of this pass either, so I pretty much had a nervous breakdown when I realized what she had given me.

My friends were guessing that she gave it to me because at that point I was not on the ECV, but was hopping around on crutches. (Wanted to work off a little bit of the Monte Cristo. ;)) Maybe she thought I was on crutches all the time and wanted to save me the wait.

I got my pass about... 3.40 PM. The return time was 20 minutes later as you see on the picture.

I hate to say it, but we waited nowhere. I got my picture taken with Woody, Andrea went to ride the carousel again and then we walked up right to the bypass gate and were seated within 2 minutes. We would have been on the ride right away, but the CM at the gate was sweet enough to ask me if I could manage the stairs and when I told him no got us on the next car with the non-stairs exit.

It'd be silly I think if they got rid of single rider entirely... Coming from someone that usually uses the option as a single rider and not to line cut with friends. The idea of the single rider line is good, with large-load rides such as TSM. When you have a ride that seats eight, there's bound to be an extra seat here or there. I can understand getting upset Karlzmom if whole parties are using it, but for legitimate single riders, it's a good idea.

So, "they" have decided it's better to have vehicles go off half-empty, and the regular line made even longer? :confused3

In fairness, some people are not very comfortable sitting next to a stranger, yet are too shy/nice/accommodating to say so when it comes down to it. I know if I were in a party of 3, in most cases I'd rather be alone than next to a stranger (especially if that stranger shot better than me! ;) ).

A lot of people here loved it, but I wonder how many people who weren't aware of that line are disappointed that they waited in line for 40 minutes only to be sat next to a stranger? Just a thought. I'm sorry for those whose plans it disrupts.

Yet on a ride with no single rider, i.e. SM, if a single gets into the ride with a party of three, they often lump them together without hesitation.

Maybe it's from growing up at classic amusement parks on the Northeast (i.e. Astroland at Coney Island), but putting people together was the norm. Never a thought. And on TSM, it's not like you're hip-to-hip like on the Cyclone or other old-time roller coasters.

Not to say your assessment is wrong, but I don't think it's a decent reason. Considering how the park can speed up the line at TSM with single rider, it seems a no-brainer. Especially when you factor in how many people here are so concerned about wait times: Would you rather be seated next to a stranger for three minutes, or wait 5-10 minutes longer to get on a ride?

I didn't know they ever had SR for TSMM. It's not in their little map thing and I didn't see it on my trip, earlier this month. I could of saved myself lots of waiting or maybe ridden a few more times with a SRL. Probably wouldn't have needed to nosh on a giant turkey leg either ;).

we used SR a few times, and i think our wait was very close to the standby line.It moved so slowly because most parties were 2 or 4. It also took a long time to hook back up because it took so long for each rider to get on. In my mind it is no great loss.

Do you have any hard evidence that it takes longer without SR? I'm not saying that is not the case, but I don't know that it's true. I would think that a lot of the SR people wouldn't bother to ride without SR, and I'm not certain that SR is an efficient manner of loading (I never experienced it to know).

For myself, though, I'd rather wait 5 minutes later in general. If I've waited 35 minutes, I hate the idea of getting put next to someone who waited just a few minutes--waiting an extra 5 minutes is worth it for me.

(This is assuming the single rider line goes quickly, of course--I've read posts from others like Judy from Boise who had long waits in the SR line anyway. It could be that the norm was a long wait, or even that they had complaints from single riders, that made them discontinue it.)

Comment not intended as a slam at you, sorry if taken that way. Just a general grumble at the lay out of the whole thing. Even in your instance, someone riding the carousel is not fighting through little tracks of chain link backand forth, back and forth with a very antsy little guy. I really prefer the setup at WDW, as at least you are able to see something [amazing themeing] in the wait area and have the rails to lean against...rather than the DL queue.
I also wish that if there were "options" for those with mobility problems they would advertize it better, as we skipped TSM when my Dad was here as we knew he couldn't managed the queue and wait. Glad to hear it worked for you..again, just a general grumble.....

SR for an SR is quick, or it has been in 90% of my experiences. Even at Splash, which has a load of 5-6 people, the longest I think I've waited was under 10 minutes when the standby line was still over 30 minutes. In fact, the only time I can remember there being a long wait for single rider was at Screamin', and it was a larger group trying to use SR instead of the standby line that was messing things up for everyone, using that line to try and still all ride together.

Statistics? No, I don't have them. Logically, it works. The question is how much time does it save, and is it worth it. I can see it not being necessarily all that beneficial for TSMM, but totally so at Soarin' because of the load specifications. If it's something like 20 singles an hour at TSMM, that's two-and-half trains worth or extra wait... A minute or two. If there are 100 in an hour, that's over 22 eight-person trains. Figure it's about a half-minute to load, that's over 10 minutes extra wait time an hour.

I don't get upset if somebody follows the rules to save themselves time, even when I ride with friends, especially as they are saving me time if the system works. I'll admit I get irked if somebody is trying to bend the rules (i.e. the family of SRs I mentioned before at Screamin'). I also get annoyed if there are two lines that are supposed to be the same, but one always seems to go longer than the other. For instance, when the line breaks up at Indy. My attitude about waits and other riders' waits depend on the situation.

I grew up big city, and I'm very happily big city mentality. Having to sit next to a stranger in public is natural to me. Especially as everyone pays the same to get in. Do you have the same issues riding Soarin'? After all, you're riding there with something like 80 riders in groups of about nine lumped together. Have you ever felt that was an invasion?

Also, do you get upset if a handicapped person gets on, say a boat at IASW, in two minutes if you've been waiting 20? You said you don't like others getting on quicker than you, but this person just did. I'd hope with you as with me, it would depend on the situation, and I'de like to think if someone is playing by the DL rules, that others would be okay with others' conduct.

We used SR and it was a long wait. Because they do ask people if they mind having a stranger next to them. And I admit that when I am asked...I say no. I dont want someone I dont know sitting next to me if I can choose for them not to. Everytime I have ridden SM by myself I have never been paired with a stranger...perhaps just my luck. On other rides when you have no choice I am not bothered by being next to people. But when I have a choice I'm always going to say no. That is how I am and I have every right to be. I feel annoyed when the person next to me, whom I dont know, insists on making lame conversation with me lol

The SR line for Splash seems to move fairly quickly, however you can stick a stranger in the log and not be affecting anyone else. Since you all sit in a row.

Oh, don't misunderstand. I "get" the single rider line, and love it for rides where I'm by myself...I have no issue with riding with a stranger...
My issue was the gaggle that was brought it [at least 6] ahead of us at the last minute....

Like Krissy Marissy mentioned... whenever we had an odd number in our party for TSMM, a CM always asked if we were OK with a single rider joining us before actually calling anyone over.

Maybe so many folks declined, the powers that be felt it wasn't worth dealing with a SRL at all.

Of course why that option was offered on TSMM to begin with, and not on other rides, I don't know? :confused3

I don't care for the single rider line on Mulholland Madness, but I've never been given the option to opt out there. I think you're in closer proximity on that ride than you are on TSMM. And those tight turns can be uncomfortable when you don't know the person next to you, especially when they're oversize-ish. Yep, been there, experienced it, didn't care for it at all. In fact if we don't have an even number in our group, I sit MM out now.

It would be nice if they had introduced this bypass thing properly and there would be a note how people get can get it. In the end we decided to take it as one of the "Magical Moments" that you just sometimes are awarded. Someone wanted to be nice, and I was lucky. You can't force those. :confused3

We went on the ride once before, and I did the whole line on crutches. I saw some people maneuver on ECVs, but I just didn't dare because I was afraid I'd hit something. So I agree, that maze is something you got to me careful with and it would be great if they had a separate waiting area or a second line for those with walking problems. Maybe at least some benches, and you can join your group again later.

As I had never heard a word about that pass before, I thought I'd at least let people know it is there.
