Tshirts & transfer sheet question

Last year was the first year I made shirts for DD and I. I used Amy-Mickey's sheets. I had no issues printing them, they turned out great. The issue was they were HOT to wear. Granted it was a heatwave in October with record breaking heat.

Are there other transfer pages that aren't as heavy? I'd love to try and make some shirts for this trip, but am scared they will just be too hot again.

Any ideas?

What materials where your shirt's made out of ?

In my experiance 50/50 cotton/poly blends tend to breath a little better than 100% Cottons.

Believe it or not, of all the different brands I have tried - my transfers are by far the thinnest I have ever found.

I have struggled with this issue too. Our trip is in August and it will be crazy hot, but I have spent so much time planning our shirts, plus ordering Amy's transfer sheets. I have finally decided to make the shirts and just carry a back up in the park bag. We will grab a few FP opportunities before it gets too hot and when it does we will be heading back to the resort for a break anyway where we will change. If it gets to unbearable then we will just change into the backup shirt from the bag.

It was the best compromise I could come up with. I want family pictures with matching shirts but I don't want to pass out:rotfl:

The shirts I used were actually 50/50. I may have to just make some and plan on a backup also. Last year we never wore the "what you mean I have to go home" set, since it was so hot. I couldn't imagine wearing them in the 95 degree and 95% humidity.

Thanks for the help. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything.

I used lighter colored shirts and Amy's transfers when I was down the beginning of the month. They were actually better then the darker shirts I used with another brand transfer two years ago. I sprayed myself with water and used the fan to help stay "cool". Believe it or not, I also wore my pin vest (a waiter's vest loaded with pins) and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :rolleyes1I did find myself hitting the AC as often as I could. :cheer2:Penny

I'm new here to the DISigns boards and still trying to figure things out--where do you get these transfers that Amy recommends? What brand are they?

I've read the webpage i was directed to and they sound great! I have a question about the heat everyone is talking about: does it just get hot and sweaty where the iron on is? I have a son with severe eczema that is brought out with heat. how hot do these shirts actually get? are they hot because of the iron-on or because of the type of shirt or color of shirt that is chosen? Do you think it would be okay to have a small pocket design rather than a full 8x11 picture design or would you not recommend it at all? any tips on "keeping it cool" with the designs?

I had both Full page and 1/2 page DISigns last year. It was October in the middle of the record heat. (95+ degrees and 95% humidity) The 1/2 page were actually Mickey ears with names and they weren't that bad. The full page ones were what we wore down there and it was hot on our chests. (we spent the evening at DTD once we arrived) The transfers remind me of the 1970's iron-ons, a little heavy. (if you are old enough to remember those:rolleyes1) The issue I think is it is harder for the material to breathe. We decided to skip wearing the "don't want to go home" shirts since those had the full page on the back of the shirt.

Hope that helps some.
