TSA's New Body Scanners

I told dh about these last night. He travels almost every week and he thought I was pulling his leg. He would not believe me. Well, he flew out of Denver International this morning and sure enough, the new scanners were there! He couldn't believe I was actually telling him the truth. I told him that the Podcast team is never wrong! (And no, he didn't go thru that scanner!).

Did he say if he could see the screen??? I want to know more details about this? what did he say about it?

sorry if I am jumping on ya but I've gotta know this just seems weird!!!

He didn't say much other than they had the person raise their arms and then took the picture. I don't think he could see anything. He's on his way to Amsterdam so I won't talk to him until tomorrow. I'll have to ask more questions!

Interesting how they mention Albuquerque in the article as being one of the nation's busiest airports. We aren't even close to being one of the busiest. However I am flying out in 16 days. I wonder if they will scan anyone in my party.

They said in the podcast that the video feed for the naked screenings will be led out to a different location. So they won't have a video screen near security, it would most likely be in a different room. I thought I read that it wouldn't even be in the airport, that it would be fed out to a whole different area where they would screen it for privacy reason. Don't hold me to that though, I just thought I read that somewhere.

The Today show has this on a few months back. The person that scans you does not see the x ray. It is sent to another secure location. That way the TSA employees can not put a face with the x ray.

I am for it! I think less will get thru! Scan me!!! Rather be safe than fighting someone for my life and the life of others while on a plane! Not saying I wouldn't to save you fine folks out there!

Well that's a butt ugly picture and if someone's using that to get their kicks, they must be pretty freaky... :upsidedow

I'm still trying to figure out what this "person" is carrying anyway?

It is her cell phones. If you copy and paste the link at the top of my post it will show a before and after picture side by side and you will see a woman wearing a black outfit with a jacket.

I agree if someone gets some sort of jolly off of the x rays they need some help!

well if this and that pic are true I am a lot less freaked by it!

There are news stories and pictures showing the screen out in the open in the Denver airport. This seems to be a case of the TSA saying one thing and the staff at the airport doing something else.

I'm all for it! Especially seeing those pictures, who cares? Theya all look like aliens anyways. And yes, the company has the capability to get more detail, but who cares?

Well would you enter a body scanner or not? I believe that despite differences in body sizes or the difference due to a physical disability, we mostly all have the same equipment and most adults know what these differences are. Some of us are bigger, some of us smaller, but overall, I think that if it is going to make us safer I wouldn't be totally opposed to going through the scanner.

However, I do understand there are far more modest people out there and people who are more focused and vigilant about their civil liberties than I am.

So, would you or won't you?

I went through a test one a couple of months back and let me tell you, they are fast and easy. Way easier than what we have now.
At 50 y.o there ain't nothing new under the sun.
Bring them on.

I'm all for security, but they can pat me down. I don't even let my husband see me naked, for God's sake and he sleeps next to me every night. If I don't want the man I married to see me naked, why would I want a complete stranger to see me naked??? The OP quoted a story that said the scanners could see the sweat on your back.... that is just more detail than I care to know about

No way, and not so much for the reasons that it is humiliating and is against my civil liberties, but I do not believe that this will make anyone safer.

I think my civil liberties would be a lot more violated if I were blown up on the plane. I saw the demonstration they did on the TODAY show as well. Not that big of a deal.

Another image...
I'm pretty sure that photo was just added into the t-ray image for comparison.

I remember seeing something about this last year. I actually think it's amazing. I couldn't care less. People are NOT seeing you naked...they're seeing a silhouette image--it's not like it's a pin-up, folks. I don't feel violated by this at all--in fact this feels les violating than some strangers hands rubbing up and down my body.

I always get extra security checks. I'm a small girl who is about as non-threatening as one comes. It's amusing to me, but annoying too. This is welcomed by me;however, unless they're checking everyone to this extent, it's basically useless...

As for celebs...too bad? They're still travelers and citizens of the world we live in. Such is life. I don't assume that the people viewing the image will ever know who is on screen at any given time. Even if they catch something, I imagine that the suspect would be taken away and the image sent to an official who will deal with the situation.

In my book, this is no big deal. It's not like they're making me strip down in front of an audience. Some dressing rooms have cameras...that bothers me much, much more than this...

When the come out with this thing at ATL, it will be time for a little fun. Yep, I'll have to break out the Spiderman undies or even something more creative... Maybe a TSA Sucks pair of boxers.
