TSA updates coming

According the the Director of Homeland Security, the TSA will announce new guidance on liquids today. Watch your local media outlets for updates. (The Director said this on Meet the Press, but refused to give details as he wanted the TSA guy to do that. Strikes me as "more media time", but they are policiticans after all and therefore love the attention)

I'm hoping to hear that they are putting a labelling program in place ie anything purchased airside will have a sticker/mark/label, or can be collected while boarding ala duty free, but fingers aren't crossed.

A CATSA official announced on the CBC yesterday that they were 'requesting' that Canadians put their laptops into checked luggage; not a requirement, just a 'request'. Request away, I know where my laptop will be next week!

Last time I checked, contact solution was not a medication. I think the 4 oz. would apply to cold medication, Pepto Bismol etc. Maybe they will let people on with eyedrops.

I am wondering about OTC nasal spray.... any thoughts on this?? I have a freind about to fly who needs the stuff... if she used it in front of TSA would that be enough for the 'all clear'

Looks like the eye drops/gel (who uses eye gel?) is on the no no list, also saline, which is what is in nose drops is a no no.

Personally, I am VERY upset about the Jello - I NEED my Jello shots, cannot go for 3 hours without them..

According to Wikipedia: "A medication is a licensed drug taken to cure or reduce symptoms of an illness or medical condition."

By this definition, medications would include any licensed drug used to reduce symptoms of dryness in the eyes or nasal cavaties, such as saline sprays, nasal inhalers or eye drops. It would probably not include something you don't take, such storage solution for contact lens.

Eye drop bottle was specifically mentioned as suggested mode of transport for solutions in the raids on the terrorists. The TSA is not really just picking random stuff to piss you off

No, but these same items were a threat TWO weeks ago and the TSA did NOTHING... ... maybe the increase in travel this summer has caused them to have to work too hard and they want to cut travel back down again?

just check www.tsa.gov for the latest including new ok to carry less than 4 oz. of non-prescription liquids and to carry solid lipstick (not lip gloss)

But they have found traces of the TATP explosive in at least one of the flats in the UK, which means there is at least one batch produced that is out there and unaccounted for. Probably it didn't make it to this side of the ocean. We certainly hope not.

I have no problem with the liquid ban if it was CONSISTENT. However, over on www.flyertalk.com there are whole threads about the FA's bringing on their liquids and BUYING that contraband in the airport and brining it on to.

Well that's better the plan the folks on flyertalk.com have in mind. They think we are going to have to show up at the airport NAKED and get our TSA approved robe and slippers to fly....

Now not much is going to get me off of a plane, but I am NOT walking thru security NAKED!!!!

Actually my feelings are that considering that we can't stop the materials from getting on board the plane that we should spend our resources on identifying probable terrorist. I also feel that we should all learn to live with abit of risk. Air travel is still very safe and would probably still be one of the safest ways to travel even if every security check point was removed tomorrow.
