i read the site but want to be clear on this under 3ozs in carry on and it has to be in quart bags ? each item or can you fill it up ? and does size matter in checked bags?

Checked bags -- anything goes as far as liquids.

Carry-ons ...

Each ticketed passenger is entitled to have one (and only one) quart-sized zip-top bag in which to put liquids and gels. Each container in said bag can't be any larger than 3 ounces. You can put as many containers into that bag as you want, as long as the bag closes without a struggle.

Also, the containers must have the size labeled on them. If a TSA agent has to guess the size, you risk that he/she will guess it is too large and confiscate/discard it.

Note that the containers themselves cannot be greater than 3 oz. A half-full 6 oz. container, even if it fits the zip-top bag, is not permitted.

And just in case you're wondering about liquid/gel medicines, they are separate from the other liquid/gel baggie.

Also, if you're checking anything liquid or gel-ish...for instance I always check toothpaste b/c we use the non-fluoride kind and they just don't make small sizes of those...double-baggie it! You do NOT want a toothpaste (or hair gel or shampoo, etc) explosion in your checked bags, and it's possible while down in the luggage area.

I can never ger this whole 311 thing. Maybe its those (nonexistant) Public Service Announcements all over TV. Guess not.

Ok its as as many

3 oz bottles in a
1 quart sized zip loc
1 bag per passenger

Official version from tsa.gov.
===================
3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

I have been looking around at trial size stuff to bring and our CVS's and Target have little airplane tags on the bins saying TSA approved item. That may help....they also sell the quart sized bags. But we use a gajillion ziploc bags at home here so we always have the quart sized ones on hand!

I am going to switch to Benadryl strips and cough medicine strips for this trip - I always carry the medicine, just in case.

And am I right in assuming that bean #2's inhaler needs to be in its original box? As well as her epi pens? I have the boxes, just need to be sure I can just pack them in carry on and not part of the ziploc rule.
