I am hoping that someone can help school me a little. I have looked on the tsa's website, but still have some questions. We are flying airtran in May, so I am attempting to get this figured out. My main question is can I put something from a larger container into a 3oz or smaller container for the flight? If I can't do that then I am allowed to have a larger container in my checked luggage? I am wanting to do this with my shampoo, aloe vera, and suncreen. I have large bottles of all these.
My next question is for medication. I have two children who take the liquid form of claritan, they have a script for it. Can I take the liquid on my carry on, or do I just need to buy some of the pills to be safe?
Next, My mil was looking at taking some shoe inserts. I have noticed a lot of them have gel, how does this work?
My last question is again over medication. Can you take nasacort in a carryon, it is a prescription nasal steroid. It's expensive so I would hate to take it just to lose it.
Also is it safer to just take the meds in the checked luggage, I have always done carryone, but I am open to the better options.

Thanks in advance for everything.

You can transfer the liquids into smaller bottles. Just make sure the bottles are labeled with the sizes. You can't take plain bottles and refill them, TSA wants to see the quantity on label. Sometimes they look, sometimes they don't. I wouldn't take any chances.
You can take larger bottles in your checked bag. Just make sure that you at least put them inside a ziploc bag. I personally doubly ziploc them, just in case.
Liquid prescriptions don't fall under the 3-1-1 requirement. You can carry them on, they don't have to be in the quart ziploc, but you have to declare them. I usually keep them in a separate ziploc, just cuz its easier. I wouldn't put the rx items in your checked bag, just in case they got lost. Then you have an even bigger problem.
Remember, each traveler can have their own quart ziploc bag.
Can't help with the gel inserts.

Gel inserts for shoes are banned. She is best off packing them in the checked luggage.
If you can figure out why they are safe to go in the hold, but not on your feet please let us know.:confused3

But the gel for other parts of the anatomy can be mixed with your shampoo . . . :cool1:

Not a good idea to ever pack medication in checked baggage....

You cannot have 3 oz of liquid in a 5 oz bottle.

Liquid meds can be carried on, but must have a pharmacy prescription label on it.

Each ticketed passenger can carry on one quart size zip lock bag. They can put liquids/gels/pastes up to each 3oz. in size. You must be able to zip the bag closed and when you pass through x-ray you must remove them from your bag and place them in the bin when you pass through x-ray.

You can carry on your nasacort, but you must put it in your zip lock baggie as mentioned above. Ditto with eye drops, etc.
