TSA PreCheck Appointment- Documents

We have applied for TSA Pre-Check and have our appointment in a couple days. According to their website we only need to bring a state ID and birth certificate for our daughter and a passport for ourselves. We had hours and hours of trouble with the Texas DMV wanting all kinds of paperwork to get our daughter a state ID. We brought everything stated on the brochure and more, but they wanted all kinds of crazy things. It took 4 hours and 2 trips to get her an ID!

So, I would like to prevent problems with this appointment. Do they really just need a birth certificate and state ID for our daughter, or should I bring other things? Will they want just our passports or were you asked for other things?

I don't know for sure about your daughter but I know as an adult they just needed my passport, I don't even remember them looking at my driver's license. It was super quick since I had already pre-applied online.

I brought just my passport. No idea what is needed for a dependent. My dd has had a passport since she was 14.

We just needed our passports. They didn't look at anything else. It was literally less than 5 minutes. We had applied online, went to the appointment, they looked at our passports and fingerprinted us and that was it.

IIRC at the end of the application process it states exactly what to bring for ID - if you follow this I see no reason why there would be an issue. We all had passports and that was the only thing we were asked to show.

Passports work as a single document because they know you already had to show multiple documents to get the passport.
I think if the instructions say BC and state ID that's all you'll need.
State's are notorious for being overly demanding and vague about documents needed for a DL or ID. Here in TN they do the same things you encountered. It's very frustrating. Thankfully, we didn't find the PreCheck approval process to be anywhere near that convoluted.

Thank you all. I feel better. When I tried to get the ID with my daughter, they would not accept my State of Texas Driver's License at the Texas DMV! It was insane! They told me that they would not accept her shot record as one of her documents and then did accept it when my husband took her back. Glad to hear that this should be easier.

We had our appointment and it was perfectly smooth. The ladies were super nice, no stress. We were finished within 10 minutes. They did ask for my daughter's social security number, and I had brought her card, so I had it. She said that if I hadn't had it, we still could have continued, so maybe that's always the case. Thanks for the help! Now hopefully they'll come back with no problems, but at least my part is done!

Nope, I don't have one. We don't travel outside the US, no plans to so no passport.

The only reason they are useful in regards to PreCheck is as I said, you already had to produce 2 documents to get your Passport so you only need it for PreCheck. If you don't have one you need 2 documents for PreCheck. For many, it's easier to get their hands on a passport at home vs. a birth certificate and in my case, marriage license (since there is name change involved)

Hmm - my daughter has her DL Permit and a school ID but not a state ID. Now I'm wondering if we need to get her a state ID before getting her TSA Pre-check done. We'd planned on doing it over Thanksgiving break since she won't be in school then.

She's 17 and I am not seeing anything about what is needed for people under 18 on the website.

This is from the email we got when we made the appointment for my daughter. I don't know that a permit would work. You can probably call the office where you would make your appointment.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS TO YOUR ENROLLMENT. Legal Name must match exactly on all identification documents brought to enrollment.

1. Birth Certificate bearing an official seal (or certified copy) issued by a State, county, municipal authority (or outlying possession of the U.S.)

2. State ID Card (or outlying possession of the U.S.) with a seal or logo from State or State Agency

When we went for our interview, there were a couple of women who had appointments after ours. Neither of them had passports, so in addition to birth certificates and state ID's, one of them was showing a copy of her marriage license. I do not know if that's always required, but that's one of the documents she was pulling out to show them.
