I'm finally going to get it - I've put it off because I'll miss a day of work and spend hours driving....

Now that I'm ready to make an appointment, I'm confused about the ID part. I put in that I'll bring my passport since it has my current name that I've used for 12 years. Everything except my birth certificate has my current name. Do I need to bring any other ID? The online pre-enrollment only says to bring passport but asked a weird question about drivers license and birth certificate not matching.

Thanks!

Did mine and DW's a year ago and my mom did hers 2 weeks ago. All the three of us were asked for and needed was the passport. As they are doing a background check on you they basically need as much information as possible. If your name has changed they need to know what other last name to look for etc. when doing the check. If the information you gave them does not match or is incorrect it could delay or even exclude you from getting approved.

So to confirm, your maiden name went into the application, but for current ID it's just the passport?

I think the side note in the application was for people who needed two forms of ID like a driver's license and birth certificate. A passport seems to encompass everything.

1. Yep, for both my wife and mom they put their maiden names into the application and brought just their passports.

2. Yeah, that would be my understanding that some people might need more then one piece of ID depending on what they have.

We are Canadians and fly out of the US frequently. The last 5 times we flew our entire family of 5 had TSA Precheck so no more waiting in line and we didn't have to fill out an application to receive it.

I brought my birth certificate & drivers license. Because my last name did not match so I also brought my marriage license. It was processed and approved in 2 business days. I got the email first, and then a week or so later got the letter.

I just took my passport. No need for birth cert or marriage certificate.

Don't get precheck. Spend the extra $15 and get Global Entry which includes precheck and is far more useful.

When you do this, you have to have an in-person interview, correct? How do you figure out where the interview locations are? And if there aren't any near you, is it possible to plan it so that you do the interview if you happen to be visiting an area that does have a location?

The TSA Precheck website tells you where they do them. You set up appointments. And yes, many do plan to do them when they are in the area where one is offered. But, even our little ole town has one. I bet many do. It's not at the airport though

We use Nexus, sometimes TSA personnel do not always know what it (Nexus) is, but other than that, the dedicated express lines are AWESOME.

Thanks, I'll check.

I took everything - passport, birth cert, marriage license. It was a 45 min drive to the closest location and it was much easier to bring a couple of extra papers than risk having to go back again. They only asked for the passport though.

I got mine last November. I just took my passport. I was in and out pretty quick, no one else was there. They took my fingerprints and that was it. I had my number in 3 or 4 days, followed up by a letter in the mail.

I checked the website, and it's more than an hour drive to the nearest location. How far out are the interview appointments? I would need to time the interview for when I would be near a location anyway.

We can get them at ours same day. They actually do appointments and walk in. The company that does them does several different things, not just TSA Precheck interviews but it's not terribly busy.

If the website was flagging a difference in names, I'd bring all available documentation. (Birth certificate, driver's license, proof of name change such as marriage license or court decree.) Maybe you won't need it? But it would be better to take it and not need it than arrive and find out they want to see it...

There's really no question at all if your name doesn't match your BC. No maybe about it, you will need it. You must bring something, whatever it is, that shows why your name is no longer the same as on your birth certificate.
