TSA: No more taking shoes off

/
I don't even mind taking my shoes off but what I do mind is that its just another thing in my hands and then once it comes out of the scanner they are just on the rollers and not in the bin anymore are I'm trying to gather my stuff and I'm basically being yelled at to get out of the way but take all my stuff and the bin etc.
Then I walk over to a bench to put them back on because I can't just drop them and slide them on like some people can.

I haven’t had to remove my liquids bag in a long time 🤷‍♀️

Funny you should mention that. I'm flying this weekend for the first time in *many* years. My son has flown at least once a month for the last year or so with nothing but a carry-on and sometimes a personal item (backpack). I was asking him about the liquids/3-1-1 bag and he looked at me like I was crazy. He had no idea what I was talking about. He said he has never had to remove liquids from his bag. He has at least 3 liquid items (travel size) in his bag on every trip -- he just puts them in his toiletry bag and has never had to pull that bag out. His girlfriend said the same thing -- she just puts her liquids in her make-up bag and has never had to pull the bag out. I know if I tried that, I'd be pulled aside for additional screening and miss my flight. :D

I'm also a fan of not having to unpack my backpack to remove electronics and my liquids
I have not had to remove my liquids in many trips. I can't even remember the last time I did.

I don't usually carry electronics besides my phone, an extra charger, and other basics. No laptop or tablet.

Just curious because it's been *sooooo* long since I've flown, do you simply not take your liquids out of your bag even though other people might be doing that, or does TSA not indicate that you need to take your liquids out?

TSA has specifically said that liquids should be kept in your bag. This has happened at O'Hare, Indy, MCO, Boston, and others that I can't remember at this moment.

Does he have TSA-Pre? If he's flying once a month for a year, there's a decent chance he does (even if he forgot it).

Pre allows you to keep liquids and electronics in your bag and shoes on. So it just may be what he's used to?

Even in the Pre line at YYZ they still make you take your laptop out every time, but that airport is very dumb in general.

Glad to hear about the shoe thing for people without Pre though because that had to be the silliest bit of security theater to come out of post-9/11 (and the whole thing has been silly).

Re: liquids from what I understand the newer scanners are better about them, thus no need to remove them at airports that have the updated machines. It's news to me that they don't have to be in compliant bags though.

He does now, but he's only had it about 4 months. He flew frequently for almost a year (as well as randomly for the 2-3 years before that) and said he's never been asked to pull out his liquids even before he had TSA Pre. It might have to do with the airports he flies in and out of (EWR, SAN, and AUS for the most part). I'm definitely going to be prepared to pull out that bag if needed. I'm such a rule follower that I'm stressing about going through TSA (and I guarantee you I've read more articles, watched more videos, and talked to more experienced flyer than any other "new" flyer who will be in line with me that day. But I know it will be me who has an issue. :D). I want to be prepared for everything and *don't* want to be the person who's holding up the line. I will be taking Ativan before leaving for the airport. :D

I still have my liquids in the 3-1-1 bag (that actually stays packed all the time) and have it in my big ole handbag. If they want it out, it’s easy to grab but I haven’t needed to for at least the last couple years.
And on the subject of explosives, I’m glad the underwear bomber didn’t prompt them to start checking there!!!
