TSA mess and the police

On a lighter note . . . how about that woman who uses a chair travelling in lingerie and a trench coat? On her first attempt to fly, TSA found some explosive residue on her chair . . . their response? They sent her home. She came back the next day and made her flight. That's some securrity system!
They found nitrates - you know - the stuff in fertilizer. :rolleyes1

Thanks! I was really curious about that.. I wonder if it has changed with these new enhanced security measures.. I really never thought about these pets until today - when I saw that video..

I provided a link to that - a page or two back.. There's a video of her sitting in a wheelchair - in her bra and panties (is that okay to say?) with her little white dog in her lap.. That's what got me to wondering about security checks on pets..:goodvibes

I too was confused by the "go home and come back tomorrow" statement.. I believe that was after an hour (Maybe two? Can't remember for sure) of interrogation and such..
:confused3

Oops! With all the bickering and self congratulating postings, I missed yours.

The reports I read said an hour of searching and questioning. Compare that with the almost three hours that the TSA held a guy in Atlanta who, after clearing customs and immigration just wanted to depart the airport. TSA wanted to screen him as if he was going to board an airplane.

ooooooh!!! I know this answer!!!!! (raising hand and waving it above head)

The article that I read stated:
=> her wheelchair (metal) was wanded and they found traces of nitrates. (apparently nitrates are residue used in making bombs). She thought it was either from a recent hunting trip or from medication. It took them over an hour to clear her through security. She missed her flight that day, so she went home and came back the following day. (which is probably where the "come back" statement came from)

=> She returned the following day - wheelchair wanded again but was cleared this time (so maybe they cleaned it overnight?). She cleared security and made her flight.

Actually, he approached the TSA agents. It was not about them screening him. You really need to try harder to stick to the facts. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the facts. :thumbsup2

True.. A much shorter interrogation..:thumbsup2 Out of all that though, the thing that stuck in the forefront of my mind was that dog sitting on her lap - and what kind of screening it would require now..LOL..

I don't think I heard (or read) about the person in Atlanta that you're speaking of.. Are you saying that he flew into the airport in Atlanta - having already been screened in the airport that he departed from - and they wanted to screen him again in order to walk out of the airport?

Why? :confused3

A little humor:

:rotfl2: well done!

So has anyone been able to determine what the screening process is for dogs and cats yet? :confused3

I just can't get that video out of my head - and them reporting that she and the dog were able to "board the plane and fly out"..

No C. Ann haven't found any thing. sorry.

There won't be one until they discover the first Cat Bomb.

Yep--but I'll give them a hint....just watch out for kitties decked out in christmas lights gnawing away. ;)

And the cartoon was funny.:lmao:

You can't evoke the fear from 9/11 to force through every single thought that comes to mind. No-one has forgotten how horrible it was and 9/11 was indeed a horror, but there are a few things to remember. No-one bothered watching these guys or picking them up after their visas expired, no-one bothered to check out why a bunch of illegal guys from a hostile country of origin were learning how to fly planes EVEN THOUGH Air-terrorism is common in their region of the world and back then everyone was simply caught off guard, except for those on Flight Number 93 who realized what was happening and fought back. None of those circumstances are still present and, more than anything else, I have Faith that the women and men around me every day would recognize the threat and fight back. Believe me, I'm a 5'1" female and I'd be clawing at the face if one of those nutters should ever cross my path whether it was at a mall, in a movie or on a plane. I can be dangerous too, all of us can be if we choose to be.

I'm ok with some of the common sense security measures but I don't need saving.... not anymore because I'm just not afraid of them like I once was. Like I said before, they've taken enough from me, I refuse to give them anything else.

What got us back then among other things is not realizing that the plane could be used as a weapon.

As for flight 93...they got word about the other attacks and they put 2 and 2 together regarding this flight. They didn't just decide to stop a hijacking. They knew they were going down. So they did what they could to make sure they were the only ones harmed from that flight going down. Had they been the only one successfully hijacked that day, I'm not sure they would have done what they did.

It was not in our culture to interfere with hijackings.

(and if this is ignorant, I Do apologize--I'm only going on my own memories of 9/11 and the months following. I did not know anyone personally on any flight or in the twin towers--but I have known people who knew and am not trying to be insensitive to what they experienced.)

Just a reminder of why we go through the security. The as it happened posts from these boards on 9/11.

I couldn't get through it.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=236435

I'm not going to read it....

But had box cutters not been allowed on board, that would have stopped them. IIRC. I will have to yield to someone who can validate or correct me on that one.

These more invasive searches today are due to the increase in non-metal alternatives getting through.

That is all I'm going to comment on 9/11. I realize it is tough for many and my memories may be very faulty. I'm very sorry if it causes anyone offense as that was not my goal.

ok then response deleted Lisa loves pooh and if olwyngdh pulls their comment I will remove my response to them as well

No worries - You are just stating your opinion, as is your right. For the record, I agree with your comments - the original changes made shortly after 9/11 made sure that this will never happen again. Things like the shoe bomber have escalated things since then. Not sure where it ends, but we can never make flying perfectly safe from terrorists. With their funding, they can buy hand-held ground to air missles and shoot planes from the sky.

No one here needs any reminders - nor do I think it's appropriate to use that day as a means of bolstering the idea that we need these new enhanced measures to insure the safety of everyone - especially when pat downs are being done on a random basis without probable cause (nothing triggering the scanner or metal detectors).. So the guy ahead of you or the woman behind you could very well be "the one" that you should be fearful of.. "Random" does not increase security..

That is all I'm going to comment on 9/11..

And the only thing I'm going to say is that since these new security measures have been put in place people have stated here (I believe) and other places as well - that upon reaching their traveling destination they found items in their carry-ons that never should have made it past security..

Do I hope everyone is safer? Of course I do.. Do I believe that they actually are? No...
