TSA Approved Luggage Locks and Barcelona

I was wondering if I should purchase those new TSA approved luggage locks for my trip over to Barcelona? The TSA officials have special keys that can open them here in the US. But what about at BCN airport?

I'm hoping they'll be universal because I am certainly planning to lock all of our bags as we'll be storing them with bell services several times throughout our trip. DH has a PacSafe messenger style laptop bag with a combination lock. We have some TSA locks already (if I can find my KEYS) but I am planning on also bringing a spare package or two as well so in case they get removed and not put back I can replace them. Even in the US we've had them disappear off the bags before. I figure if I keep the receipt I can return the locks after the trip if I don't need them.

I've flown in and out of France, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom with TSA locks on my luggage and never had them disappear or be cut off. I'm fairly sure TSA is a universal thing these days

I'll be flying into Barcelona with TSA locks in a week. Don't expect there to be any problems.

After a quick Google search, apparently TSA locks are not universal. Foreign security officials will cut them off if they want to inspect your bag. So maybe pack some spare TSA locks if you want to use them in case your originals get cut off.

I was just private messaged from a world traveller who said to only use the COMBINATION TSA locks, not the keys.

We have travelled extensivelythroughout Europe and never had locks taken off, never had a bag opened!!!

I know we had the TSA ones when we went to the States a few times, but don't think they were touched either!

I think a lot of it is luck. We've travelled with TSA key locks and never had them taken off but I know people who have. If they need to inspect the bags (because the scans have identified something odd) they will take them off.

Well, I have the combination locks (don't trust myself not to lose the keys), so perhaps that's the reason for mine sticking to my bags
