Having just travelled this past weekend, a few notes about going through security with the quart size plastic bag with your toiletries. At the ABQ airport, the had a table set up before id/boarding pass check to check your plastic bag and put a sticker on it to show it had been checked. You still had to run it through the xray outside of your luggage. If there was something found in your bag, they had you go through a seconday bag check, so remember to pull that bag out. There were a few ladies arguing with the TSA that even though their perfume bottle or bottle or tube of bear grease was 12 to 16 ounces, there was less than 3 ounces in it. No go. At MSY, the people at their table just told folks to make sure they pull out their plastic bag and run it through xray separately.

Hope this helps someone.

Interesting. I didn't realize that not only must there be less than 3 oz in each bottle, but the bottle itself can only hold 3 oz when full. Thanks for the info.

I would think that they put that rule in place just so there would be no argument - you'd get into an argument over what is and what isn't three oz. Kind of makes sense when you consider all they have to check for and the volume of people they check.

I have checked in at BOS and OMA and all they have done is just pick up the baggie, look to see everything is 'legal', and return it to the tray.
