TSA and Peanut Butter

The whole liquid & gel thing started because terrorists were trying to mix explosives with liquids & gels. Something could be mixed into peanut butter.

But the terrorist included an airport employee who can still bring on liquids and gels. :lmao:

It started because "we have to do something even if it's not effective"

and I'm pretty sure it was proven that the liquid bomb mix wouldn't have worked anyway. Not to mention a zillion other loopholes with the liquid ban (such as five 100 ml bottles of something in a baggie are safe, but a 500 ml bottle is dangerous, etc).

But the OP's question about bringing some PB has been answered, and hopefully, she has found some pb in small packets so she can have a snack at the parks, if she wants, and have some in her checked bag for at the room. :)

:thumbsup2. :thumbsup2

The OP didn't say she wanted to eat the PB on the plane. Just carry some so that she could bring some to the parks on her first day (in case she wanted a quick snack) before her checked bags get to her room.

My pardon, I went back and reread, you are 100% correct,

So can what is the big deal.....pack it in her checked luggage...end of story!

You have indeed been most helpful and I can now plan and stratagize accordingly. The biggest thing for me was doing what I can to not be "THAT PERSON" that holds up the line at the security check. Especially over something as silly as peanut butter.

Thanks again for the pointers on figuring out what passes and what doesn't. I rarely fly so its hard to keep track. I'm just trying to plan ahead now so I can have time to solve any issues before they become problems. (I.E. figuring out where I can put my PB in my luggage.)

I have had my checked bag searched twice; both times when I brought peanut butter. Because of it density, it does come up as a "substance of interest."

Last year, in the port in NJ, I got stopped with my carry-on bag. I had a 20 pack of batteries still in the wrapping. It came up on the screen looking like a package of bullets.

I fill a mini M&M container with quarters to use for tolls down there and put it in my pesonal item. Every single time, that bag gets searched for those quarters. I've gotten now, where I make sure to put that M&M container in a front pocket and as soon as they ask whose bag it is and say they have to search it, just tell them it's the quarters and where the container is. :rolleyes1

Oh dear God!!! I did that as well one time. And it seems that there was a rip in the inside liner of my carryon bag....which I didn't know about. So, I get to security, my bag goes through, several times. I am now holding up a hugely long line!!! I get pulled aside. They empty my carryon bag onto a table. Now the TSA people were very good...they were joking with me all the while. But by the time they got everything out of that bag, including my now squished peanut butter sandwich, they couldn't find anything. They kept asking me what I had put in there, and I couldn't honestly remember. Well, they turned the bag inside out (thank heaven it was fabric), and we both saw the same bulge at the same time. When the TSA woman pulled that M&M container out, I thought I would die of mortification!!! Had completely forgotten about that..it was the first time I had done that. Thanks to someone on the DIS, it had seemed like such a good idea!!!
Well, we all had a good laugh and off I went. But man, I'm much more careful when loading up my carryon bag now!!!

Quarters in an M&M container look dangerous? :confused3. Did the Airport Security Screeners say what they look like?
