With my sisters family and my mum travelling with us in October there are 8 of at our TS dinners but we are made up of 3 reservation (1 x 4 people. 1 x 3 people and 1 x 1 person)

Even though we will be sitting at 1 table (hopefully) can we still have 3 separate bills and will the 18.5% gratuity be automatically added to those bills ??

TIA :goodvibes

You can ask your server for separate checks but you will get the auto gratuity added to each.

OP - sorry for butting in on this (and yes, it was my understanding that no matter how you are splitting the bill, you are being served 'together' and therefore the gratuity resides, I personally have no issue with this).

But, I have been reading a fair few TRs over the last few weeks and I have come across a few people who at various restaurants, have been unhappy with the service (waiting long time for prebooked tables, sluggish ordering, big delay in meal, food not warm etc). Not saying this happens all the time, but people have mentioned they have not left a tip because of said issues.

With 6 or more people (as we will be), you automatically get charged 18% tip. Now, I have no problem with tipping for good service (and I do this regularly), but I really wouldn't want to tip if I had really bad service (and I am positive my parents won't want to either). I don't think this is what tipping is about.

Is there any way to not pay the automatic 18% tip in this situation?

If you are not happy you need to speak up - ask for a manager if necessary.

If they can't resolve it then the manager can remove the gratuity.

I would add poor food and late seating is not the servers fault and should not reflect in their tip. :thumbsup2

If you have any issues with the food or service raise them immediately with your server. If you don't get them resolved ask to speak to a manager straight away. If the manager doesn't resolve them to your satisfaction then state your reasons to him/her as to why you would like the auto grat reduced or removed.

The poor food and late seating were in addition to the sluggish ordering etc. Generally, people weren't happy with the restaurant full stop - enough to feel they shouldn't leave a tip.

I am quite happy to tip for good service and realise it is part of the US culture having visited in the US elsewhere, but I wouldn't like to feel I had to pay a tip, especially 18% of a large food bill for 6 people, if I wasn't happy with the service.

I would be happy to get the manager if necessary, but was really asking if the tip is 'non negotiable' in those circs really.

I am, of course, hoping this situation doesn't arise and I'm sure it doesn't happen that often anyway (one would hope!) :).

Was it a review of Ohana dinner by any chance :rolleyes1

Honestly, I can't recall, I've now read that many TRs :lmao:. But there have been a few instances where people have said they weren't happy with many things to do with the meal and service so didn't pay a tip. Not so many that it becomes an issue but you get my drift.... It's much easier to 'choose' not to pay a tip if something is that bad, than be faced with an automatic tip and then have hassle to get it taken off!

Like I said before, hopefully we'll have nothing to worry about anyway :).

Oh I hope not I was going to add that to our list of ADRs this time round ..... we've never been there before

It's quite a common set of complaints for Ohana. If I am honest is was my biggest disappointment of TS dining at Disney. Considering the hype and how difficult it is to secure an ADR I was expecting something better  We won't be going back :sad2:

However, I would always try something for myself. We like restaurants that I know others aren't bothered about. Everyone will have their own tastes and experiences :goodvibes
