We have an upcoming vacation in january. We are currently booked at VWL in a 1 bedroom. We are trying to switch and get a 1 bedroom at BLT. But we haven't had any luck. We are NOT DVC members...but I figured I would ask you guys if the BLT is always so booked up with people from vacation club that my chances are pretty slim at this point.

I'm amazed that all the villas we want are booked up yet there is tons of availability in the value and moderate rrsorts.

When a DVC resort is sold out, the DVC system is expected to be fully booked 98% of the time. Hotels often operate at a significantly lower capacity rate.

Did you book directly from Disney or did your rent points from an owner?
The DVC owner inventory and the Disney CRO inventory are 2 different inventories. Only a very small percentage of the total Villas are ever in the CRO inventory.
If you rented from an owner and are trying to change, you need to be aware that the point total will be different. BLT is generally more points per night than VWL. You need to work through the owner if this is the case.
Good Luck

We book through disney. We get a discount by doing so, so that is our only option.

Ahh, cash inventory. As a percentage of the resort, that can be small.

The main driver of cash rooms are owners trading their points into the Disney Collection to use at standard Disney hotel rooms or Disney cruises. Those trades take a lot of points. Would an owner like to stay in a BLT 2BR or a Standard hotel room (not a suite) in the Poly? (They basically "cost" the same points to a a DVC owner). And even after the trade , DVC has to set aside rooms for your potential cash bookings, and we don't know DVC determines that.

I wish more people wanted to book villas through Disney, that would improve our trading power :goodvibes

As to the DVC member side of the inventory, at BLT, it is very often gone by four months out. Though the portion of the resort available for cash reservations through Disney is fairly small., it is very often open when DVC reservations are not. Thus, you might still have a chance for the Disney side of the inventory if there are cancellations but likely only a very small chance if seeking high demand times during Jan: first four days of Jan which are still part of the holiday season, marathon race weekend (Jan 8 through 11) or days right around the Martin Luther King holiday.

Only 2% of BLT is made available for cash reservation except when DVC members choose to trade out for the Disney collection. Therefore there are few rooms and many times even fewer rooms available for a discount- they can sell the few rooms that are available through Disney too easily to discount them most of the time.
