Has anyone recently rented a Ford Flex in the Orlando area? We'd love to have one for a 2 week stay in FL...I have no idea who has them for a rental :confused3 Thanks for any suggestions

Shoot :sad2: Do you know who may have one in their fleet even if it is hard to find? Thanks for the reply :)

They're VERY uncommon in fleets, it will definately be the luck of the draw.

Not only are the uncommon, but rental car companies generally will not guarantee a certain type/model of vehicle outside of special programs that come with a premium price.

I've rented them a few times from various National locations, so they're in their fleet, but obviously no way to guarantee you'll get one.

I'd suggest renting a Standard SUV (actually, the Flex might fall under Large SUV?) from either National or Alamo, at least then you have the choice of whatever is available on the SUV aisle. Still no guarantee that they'll have a Flex, but it's probably your best bet.

Only other option, definitely inconvenient, would be to see if there's a Ford dealer near the airport that rents cars.

Good news... there's one in Orlando! We rented it earlier this month. Used National's Emerald Reserve(?)... reserve a full size and pick out anything in the Emerald Aisle. We happened to stumble on a black Ford Flex. Nice ride!

A friend just rented one during our stay in Southern Oregon (I know it isn't Orlando). She requested a mini-van and was given a Flex.

We all liked it but the storage area in the back was really small. The rental was to haul 6 people around...not luggage, so it worked for us but I wouldn't opt for it on vacation because it might hold two regular suitcases with a couple of soft items on top.

Definitely not enough luggage space for our family of four never mind if there are more people involved!

hey! That's good news...it's a slight possibilty :thumbsup2 Thanks for that info :)

do you mind sharing some feedback about what you thought about the Flex? We're actually interested in renting because we're considering buying one. Thanks ;)

We had 5 people... 2 adults, a teenager and two kids. As far as luggage:

1 large suitcase
2 medium suitcase
1 small (carry on) suitcase
1 backpack w/camera & laptop
1 clear "school" backpack
1 small Tinkerbell backpack
1 sling bag
1 car seat

That got us from the airport to my parents. When we left my parents to check in BLT, we added
4 plastic bags of groceries
1 six pack of Pepsi

As far as the car itself... the only thing I was disappointed in was the MPG (<20). Granted we were running the A/C and it was little highway driving, most stop & go.

If there was only 4 people, there's lots of storage room. Even with 5 there was plenty, we simply lowered one of the back seats (split seats). If there were 6 people the storage room is slightly bigger than a minivan.

We had 6 people in the Flex and didn't collapse any seats so the storage in the back didn't hold much. I drive a Sienna at home and I easily have twice the storage area w/ all the seats up than the Flex did w/ all the seats up.

The storage space in the Flex is extremely narrow front to back. I could barely fit our carry on in sideways...it had to go parallel to the back bumper. In the Sienna I can fit our large suitcases in that space sideways to stack them across.

We only drove it short distances during our Oregon stay so I am unsure how we did for gas mileage.

Thank you both :) We're a family of four - currently driving a Rav4. So the Flex seems huge to us. I have a friend who has one and 3 boys - she loves her. I'm swept up in the way it looks ;) I've done a test drive twice and like the way it handles - pretty nice for a big SUV. I'm hoping there may be one to rent :)
