Trying to pick the perfect honeymoon hotel :)

Hey! Well we have decided to go to Disneyland for our honeymoon instead of going to Disneyworld. We both agreed that we could do more with our money and have more of a relaxing vacation going there, since there are so many things we don't "need" to do because we've been there before. I felt overwhelmed with DW planning and felt like it was going to feel too rushed. We'll go back one day when the stakes aren't so high as this is our HONEYMOON!!! It's gotta be the best!

Anyway, now we are trying to decide which onsite hotel to pick. They are all so great in their own way and I am sure there's so much about them that I don't know. We are planning on going there for "research" as soon as we can but I'd like to get a head start!

I want to know what YOU would pick out of the 3 and why? Money isn't too much of an issue so that is not the deciding factor for us, I want to consider every hotel and make a decision based off certain perks or down sides or something. Thinking this is the right place to ask as I am sure many of you have stayed at one if not all 3 of them! I feel like to you guys the obvious one would be GCH because it's for a special occasion, but I'll just say now that I don't think we'll stay onsite any more often after the wedding than we do now(which is never), so really any of the 3 would be a special event to us.

You might spend more time in the room, so you might like a PPH park view room or one of the GCH park view rooms.

If you want to stay offsite, the Carousel Inn has really nice beds.

Park Vue Inn has welcome baskets in the room, a really nice touch, and very helpful with a special occasion.

Yup, I too would go with GCH hands down. It's the nicest of the 3 DLR hotels and is really nice. I've stayed there once and would do it again in a heartbeat if I could afford it!

We were married at the DLH on Dec, and spent the first part of our honeymoon there. I would go back again in a heartbeat and rent the same suite we had. It was amazing, and the updated rooms are very sophisticated. I have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world and these rooms can compete.

We had a corner suite in the Frontier tower, and even tho we had our family with us during our stay, it was still very romantic, plus had all the Disney elements that we love, or I love, I have now converted my new husband to being a Disney fanatic like I am lol.

The grounds are lush, and sitting by the open fire place having a drink in the evening, just oustide of trader sams where they will serve you, was wonderful. Our suite had a balcony and we watched the fireworks from there. Just wonderful.

Just kidding, but yes I figured it's the obvious resort for a honeymoon, but really, I don't put too much emphasis on it as most people would. The best trip we've ever had was at the Fairfield inn, so all this one really needs to be is a little bit better than that trip!

I didn't want to bring money too much into it but I was just thinking that more could be done with the extra we save, like maybe the Napa Rose or something. We probably wouldn't do much extra if we spent most of our budget on the hotel. I really have always wanted to stay there, but we're considering the other two a lot more than before. Know what I mean?

Virgoinab, what a great description! I saw pictures of the suites on the DLR website, and I fell in love with one but I am not sure we'll do that. But I can imagine you had a wonderful stay there, the one I saw was fit for a princess!

I understand this. I think too many people will say GCH or eat at the chefs table in Napa Rose because it's obivously the nicest money can but at DLR. That doesn't mean it's right for everyone.

I went to the weddings of two freinds, who are cousins. One had a wedding in thier parent's yard, and the reception right after on the lawn, on borrowed tables with folding chairs and all of the decorations from Oriental Trading Co. The only real flowers were the brides simple bouquet. With a potluck meal that wedding and friend as the officiant it probably came in under $150.

Thier cousin's wedding was at a rented out resort, with caterers, photographers, videographers, band, florists.....

Who didn't like the first wedding? Only complaints I heard were from the cousins who spents hundreds of times more on thier wedding.

You have the perfect excuse. It's really a beautiful place. The lobby is wonderful, love hanging out there and just relaxing for a few minutes. It's peaceful. The rooms are fantastic. A very different feeling than the Disneyland Hotel. That one is more kid-oriented. GH is very much a more adult, sedate and classy place.

I agree with the above posters - just love the Grand!!

You don't have to eat dinner at Napa Rose (although it is wonderful!). You could go for dessert and a nightcap! But if you do eat at NR, ask for the Chef' Counter - you will certainly get special treatment once they find out you are on your honeymoon.

I've only stayed at the villas in the Grand and they are beautiful but my DH and I just stayed at PP and if I could get a PP view and save money over the Grand Californian, I would probably do that. You can walk through the Grand and save some money to spend on good food. I wouldn't stay the PP if you don't get the PP view of the park!

I disagree with this. I've stayed at both, with a DTD view at the GCH and a park view at the PPH. I would still chose the GCH over the PPH because of the ambience of the GCH. It just feels nicer/better......of course that's MY opinion only and the OP will chose for herself and her DFi but this is my thought on this.

Congratulations!!!

My hands down vote is the GCH without a doubt!! We have stayed there twice now and loved every aspect of it. It is so romantic there, it's crazy! You can cozy up by the fireplace at night and listen to the piano player, walk down from your room in their comfy robes and soak in the hot tub in the evening, enjoy a couples massage at the spa, book a room with a view the the parks and sit on the balcony and enjoy a nice bottle of wine together, watch all the cute kiddos sitting around the mickey cartoon tv and dream of the day you can bring your kids their haha. I love that hotel so much!! We just stayed their 6 nights last month and we miss it so much! Unfortunately for me, after 25 years DH has not an ounce of romance in him so I enjoy all those things with my DD haha I promise you will not regret it at all. You might have a hard time staying anywhere else after though.

It's gotta be the best!

Well that really leaves no choice other than the Grand Californian...It is the only hotel in Disney's catalog that is connected to a theme park, and more importantly it is the only themed hotel in DLR. Theme'ing is much more that just statues of characters in the lobby and blinky stars on the headboard. The GCH is the only hotel built by Disney from the ground up! Ya only get 1 honeymoon! Don't settle for anything less than the best!

We've only stayed at the villas in the Grand Cal, but have stayed in hotel rooms at the other 2. It would be between the DLH and the Grand Cal for me. With the renovation, the DLH rooms are really special, and I'm sure they would try to honor a special request like a high floor for a nice view, given that it's your honeymoon. The things I really like about the Grand Cal, however, are the lobby, the Hearthstone Lounge, and Napa Rose. So if you're going to be spending a lot of time just in the room (it IS your honeymoon after all), I might actually choose the DLH. But if you're looking enjoy a lot of activities together, I'd probably choose the Grand Cal since it has the nicer places to hang out, like the lobby and the Lounge and the spa. Plus, it's just a little bit fancier and feels more like a splurge as a honeymoon should be.

I was basing my statement on this comment from you for what it's worth. We did love the Grand and stayed there 7 nights, first in the Grandvilla for 3 nights with our 8 kids and then 4 more nights in 2 2 bedrooms and brought in Grandparents and aunts. Anyway our 2 bedroom viewed into California Adventure and we had a great view of WOC. The pool is great here and it was so nice to be able to walk into park from your own entrance. The bathrooms are more luxurious here then at PP. So if money weren't really an option then I would go with the grand but if you do want to watch money and have more money for great food then the PP California Adventure view isn't bad and you can still walk over to the Grand and enter the park and sit by the fire. On our trips we didn't sit around much, we were either in the park, swimming or in our room. My kids did watch cartoons though and my DH would say that was the best thing, he loved the cartoons as well. We had room service at the PP and it was great as well.

Wow, thanks for all the great advice! I really like the idea of it, the hotel is gorgeous and from what I've seen a standard view is still gorgeous. I guess it really just depends where we want to spend our money. I'll talk more to DF about it, and of course our next trip will be great for a couple hours to check out all 3 hotels, and see which one we think is best for our tastes. But I have a feeling the ambiance of the GCH will draw us both in. Oh I'd love to be that close! Hmmm decisions decisions!

We spent 3 days at DL immediately after our wedding for a "mini-honeymoon" while we waited 3 months till our WDW "real honeymoon". Therefore, we stayed off-site to save some money, knowing we would be staying a week at the WL at WDW.

We LOVED our room at Park Vue Inn! I think it was about $160/night for a king bed, two-person jacuzzi tub (framed by mirrors, it was fun), a bathroom that had one sink inside the bathroom and one sink just outside the bathroom, and a mini-fridge/coffee pot. Like someone else mentioned, they also give you a welcome basket, and ours included a few pieces of fruit and a bottle of champagne (with cups and bottle opener). Our room was awesome, extremely romantic for the times we weren't storming around the parks, and right across the street. (I believe it's closer than DLH and PPH from room to park entrances.) They offer a good continental breakfast and a light dinner, as well as free parking. And they have Cold Stone's attached to the hotel. But really, the value was in the jacuzzi, in my opinion... try pricing a jacuzzi room (not a bathtub with jets, but an actual in-room hot tub) elsewhere, and you'll see $160 is a great value. Oh, and the jacuzzi suites are in the corner at the back of the property so it was really quiet. No view, but we had no need of one... when in the room, the curtains were pulled TIGHT.

I would love to stay at the Grand Californian some day, and now that we are DVC members, that is more likely than ever. However, to save some money, I would not hesitate to stay at Park Vue Inn again. We've stayed in their jacuzzi suite twice now. It's more than we usually spend (we tend towards $100/night hotels when visiting), but perfect for a romantic getaway to Disneyland.

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you decide!

If it has to be the best- stay at the Grand.... concierge theme park view.
Then on your anniversaries - stay at the other onsite places. JMO> Congrats!

I'm going to disagree with the majority.

First, let me say that I love the Grand and if you can't afford the option I'm going to list as my #1, then I would definitely agree with that choice.

But if you can swing it, stay in the Fairytale suite at DLH!! It is an amazing place for a honeymoon, and has a fabulous view from 2 sides.

Guests enter the Fairy Tale Suite delighted by pixie dust and the appearance of Tinker Bell, who illuminates a crystal castle encased in the wall. A marble foyer descends into an enormous bedroom overlooking the entire resort through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The sage and champagne colors used throughout the suite elegantly blend the combination of blonde and glass furniture. The suite’s centerpiece is an exquisite canopy bed overlooking the corner view. The room is finished with crown moulding, automatic drapes and a custom-designed dresser, from which a flat-panel television ascends at the touch of a button.

The focal point in the suite’s bathroom is a beautiful hand-cut mosaic of a stylized Sleeping Beauty Castle. The mirror disguises a TV and the double vanity countertop twinkles with shooting stars. Domes and Corinthian columns mix thematically with an abundance of modern amenities, including a steam shower and Jacuzzi tub with chromo-therapy.
