Trying to organize stuff: do you hang your kids clothes or put in drawers?

I hang anything that can be hung. It makes it easier to stay neat and easier to find things without rummaging through the "folded" clothes.

I hang everything except pj's, socks, underware and swimming trunks. I find it is so much easier. As I take the clothes out of the dryer, I put them on hangers and hang them on a portable clothes rod. After I am done doing the laundry, DH brings the clothes up and puts them into the boys closet.
I find it easier for the kids to pick out what they want to wear too, cuz they dont have to shuffle through piles of clothes in their drawers (am mess them up, or throw the clothes they dont want to wear out on the floor) they can see every piece of clothing that is hung up and choose from there.

Happy organizing!!!
Fran

I also hang all clothes except socks, unders, pajamas and swim trunks. This is how I have always done it with my kids, and it works great for us. It does require some time to hang the clothes but it makes much less rummaging in the long run. We don't have any closets, but we bought armoires for the kids' rooms and they don't have much for drawers (just enough for the things I don't hang!). I do hang good clothes on top and old clothes on bottom, so there is some sanity!
Also...I save all the clothes hangers from the kids clothes, mostly Old Navy. I have found they work the best for hanging pants.

DD's closet is very oddly shaped, with low rods, so we hang up a lot of her clothes. Coats, shirts, pjs, dresses and skirts are hung up while undies, tights, shorts and jeans are put in her dresser. Unfortunately the weather here is very changeable (80's earlier this week, 40's today) so I can't pack away her 'out of season' clothes; I usually end up having to pull out the totes to dig something out. DD is also very picky about wanting to wear THAT shirt today so it helps that she can sort through clothes without pulling everything out of a drawer and tossing it onto the floor.

I hang everything, but I am a wrinkle freak, I hate them. I think I may have to go to folding and overcome my obsession, my kids are outgrowing their closets.

I hang all shirts, tanks, pants, dresses and jackets. Underwear and socks go in a low drawer as do pajamas so they're easy for the kids to get themselves. Shorts, swimsuits and dance leotards also go into drawers.

I don't like to fold clothes, so I just drape the hanging stuff over a chair as I take them out of the laundry backet. Then they go back to rooms and get hung up. Very easy for me!

I hang DD4's clothes. Her few drawers are full of toys.
Exception: socks & undies. For some reason, these still "belong" in a drawer down in the living room. We started keeping diapers there 4 1/2 years ago, and the drawer transitioned to pullups, and now socks & undies, with an emergency supply of undies (in a drawer) in the main bathroom.
Odd, I know, and we should change this someday, but for now it works!

I hang shirts, dresses, skorts, skirts, and coats or jackets. Pajamas, swimwear, underwear, socks, pants, and shorts are folded neatly in the drawers.

DD has her own system. For the boys we hang almost everything. They have one 5 drawer dresser for pajamas and swim trunks, they each have their own drawer and the top drawer is for sports uniforms. Then for socks and underwear I use the small plastic drawers tucked into their closets under their clothes. In the bedroom the 4yo and 7yo share they also share a closet split in half for each of them. In the bedroom the 11 and 9yo share they each get their own closet. Coats go downstairs in the coat closet. Clothes grown out of go in a skinny tote on each closet shelf to be passed down to the next boy.

We hang everything that goes on the outside: tops, bottoms, coats, etc. Fold in drawers inside clothes: pjs, underwear, socks.
If its on the floor - its laundry
Try not to buy dry clean or clothes that require ironing - those are very limited and removed and hung up immediately after wearing.
Try not to buy clothes that aren't wearable straight from the dryer and attempt to hang up everything as soon as it's dry to minimize wrinkles.
Life's too short for tons of needless laundry chores.

I love this idea! I think it willactully work for me. My DS9 is so messy with his drawers and I get so tired of asking him to straighten them out. He can't seem to fold either, but I bet he can hang! (I thought it was genetic, DH can't fold or keep drawers straight either:confused3 )

Thanks!

Wanted to add that the hangers I use made a difference too - I got the Hemlis hangers from Ikea - they are plastic "coat" hanger .99cents for package of 5 in black, white or red.

It made a difference because his shirts at his tween age are too big for baby hangers and too small for regular hangers - these slip right into the shirts very nicely. ;)
