Trying to make a change on an exsisting ressie is awful!

Seriously. This will be our first trip to Universal. I wanted to drop one night because I realized Universal closes at 7 pm. We are going the next day to Ft Myers to stay with friends. So I thought why not check out that morning instead. Drive half way or all the way. There will be cheaper hotels or we can go to our friends house.

Well I have the HP package. Which I do want to keep. I have been on hold for 4 days straight and no can tell me if this is even doable. I made it clear that was fine. I would rather stay and not lose my package. But at least give me an answer. I have assured and reassured that they won't cancel my package without finding out it can be rebooked just minus the one day. I want everything else the same!

I changed one day with Disney, called up and was done with in minutes. They are still telling me that they have special people working on any HP package changes. It takes 4 days to answer one simple question. My wait times have been horrendous just to find out nothing as well.

It looks like all the packages are for a 4 night minimum. How many nights do you have booked? What hotel? Do you have any fine print from when you booked?

It is because of the 4 night Harry Potter package. Normal ressies can be changed in a flash. Are you changing from 4 day to 3 day? If so,
basically what you are wanting to do is change from a 4 night Harry Potter package to just a 3 night onsite stay (because a 3 night package doesn't exist). Any onsite stays that were made previous to the opening date announcement are allowed the same privileges as the package. However, since you are now changing your package to a non-package, it is basically a new reservation and thus really shouldn't include any of the Harry Potter privileges. That is where they are having the problem. They are most likely trying to determine if what you want to do will allow you to keep your Harry Potter privileges. Since they are still in the process of determining what to do with all the package and non-package people, you are getting a very delayed answer.

Long story short...don't change anything.

Some (possible) issues.
1) Are you trying to reduce the number of nights below the package minimum?
2) Does reducing the number of nights affect a discount which requires booking a minimum number of nights?
3) Is your package prior to 6/18? New packages can't be booked prior to the official grand opening date. There may be a problem if the system treats a change as a cancellation followed by rebooking.

It would be easier for Universal to just tell you NO. You should appreciate the fact that they're trying to work with you.

Hmmm. I wonder if it is the same for all dates? Can't check because nothing is available in June or July even anymore. Crazy.

Any changes to my hotel-only reservations are always a breeze.

I've never actually booked a package with Universal but have with Disney. Its always more difficult to make changes to a package and also incurs fees.

I just booked a HP ressie an hour ago for 2 nights at the Portofino in December, with all the perks....

I have found that dealing with US/IOA much different than Disney when it comes to changing anything. Frustrating, but they do eventually get it right. Last visit I prepaid for a meal at Mythos, and they tried to tell me I hadn't.....It took 8 phone calls and approximately 1 hour to get it figured out, even with a written confirmation! Just hang in there and keep trying!
