Trying to Justify Upgrading...

I'm having an internal struggle here. We have a package booked for ASMusic for 8 nights for our honeymoon, however, I also managed to snag a 4 night POR RO res for Nov 4-8 and POFQ RO res for Nov 8-12, at a cost of approx. $1100 more for the 8 nights (I'm Canadian, so $1100 is more like $1400+ CAD).

I'm trying to justify cancelling ASMusic to do the Port Orleans stay instead. We are following up our first 8 nights with a 3 night stay at Bay Lake Tower, and a one night add-on at AKL, so it's not like we're not staying at some very nice resorts during this trip either. I just keep thinking what kind of cool extra things we could do for $1100 lol.

That would be a lot of splits and it’s a lot of money. But Music doesn’t scream honeymoon to me. If you could get POFQ for all 8 nights I’d do it.

I, personally, would rather a shorter trip than stay at a value resort for that long. That said, we use the amenities of the deluxe and moderate resorts, and spend a lot of time at our resort. If you think that you will only use the resort as a place to sleep, then the amenities of POFQ may not be as important as the money savings.

I guess ask yourself how much time you plan to stay at the resort. That will help you determine if it's worth it to you.

It would be fun though to do a few nights at ASMU, then POR, the either BLT or AKL. You're making it special by gradually making the rooms nicer. BUT in the end, unless you plan to do a lot of time at the resort only you can decide if it's worth it or not.

We're doing AKL but my husband does not want to spend everyday, all day in the parks so we plan to spend some time enjoying the resort and the pool.

If you weren’t staying at Bay Lake and AKL at the end of your stay, I’d definitely switch to Port Orleans. But since you are staying deluxe for those days, I would stick with ASMU. You could do a lot of park time at the start of the trip (not as much time at the resort). Then on the back end of the trip, maybe ease up on the parks and enjoy the resorts. You can do a lot with that $1100!

I am Canadian too and just returned from a week stay at ASMusic in June. I feel your pain on the exchange rate. I found the resort to be just okay. They are planning a huge renovation on all the rooms (they are currently upgrading ASMovies) and because of this I felt they had let the resort go. Our room had peeling paper, noticeable scratches on the wall and door and torn carpet. Even the elevator we used for the entire week was dirty/scratched. That being said we got a great rate through Undercover Tourist and got all the perks that go with staying onsite. Only you can decide if around $1500 cdn justifies an upgrade as that is a lot of money on what I am sure is an already expensive trip. I would probably keep it only because you do have better resorts coming up after this one and too many split stays can also be tiring. Have a great time!

This is your honeymoon, and you're at Disney.... it's going to be amazing no matter what. Congratulations! With that said, I'd vote to upgrade most definitely. If you can find one moderate resort for the full 8 night stay that would be best IMO. You two can focus on each other instead of running around changing resorts so often. It would be more relaxing, and leave more time for fun. This is your honeymoon, it only happens once. Have a super magical Disney honeymoon :)

I agree with those who support an 8-night stay at POFQ. It's just lovely, but 4 nights in one place, followed by 4 nights at another, then 3 at another and 1 somewhere else is a TON of movement. That's just my opinion. Blessings on your marriage!

I think the honeymoon part is important and while we have enjoyed the stays at All Star Music I would definately upgrade. We do lots of split stays and love being able to experience many resrorts. “Live like your never going back”. If you are both okay moving twice I say go for it.

I see in your signature that you have stayed value before so if you like it then by all means keep your plans. IMO I would stay the 8 nights in POFQ UNLESS it isY during Food and Wine and then I would maybe split it and do 3 at YC, BC or BW and the rest at POFQ. If you have time you may want to consider renting points doing all Deluxe that way. I know you can get a Deluxe Villa for the price of a value room much of the time. We rented a 2br at AKL SV Jambo house for December, and we also rented a value studio at AKL Jambo House for our daughter in December for less than the cost of a value resort. Since it is your honeymoon - I would gear my stay towards POFQ. either way congrats and have fun.

You're only going to have one honeymoon. All Stars are glorified Motel 6's. Do the upgrade, you won't regret it.

off topic, but I think youre looking at it backwards. Nobody lets things go because they plan to renovate. They renovate because (in this case) some/all rooms are cosmetically challenged by hundreds or thousands of visitors.

When are you going? If its far away, there is a chance that discounts could come out. Mousesavers.com has a historical list of discounts. If there have historically been discounts during your time frame, I'd wait and see if any come out, then switch.

I would keep the $1100 and go do other stuff with that, OR extend your trip. It's Disney...you aren't going to be in your room that much!

Key thing to me is it is your honeymoon. Upgrade from values for the entire time. Expensive? Yes. It is Disney so everything is expensive. But it is your honeymoon. Hopefully plenty of time to go back other trips and stay in values. This one needs to be special.
