Trying to decide

I have been having terrible Disney withdrawal since my husband and I moved from Orlando, FL to Silicon Valley, CA. We are hoping to go to Disneyland some time this year. I was thinking I'd love to spend my birthday there since I've spent many birthdays in WDW- it's in October and I'm eager to see how Mickey's Halloween Treat compares to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

But then, DH mentioned that it might be nice to go there for our first anniversary which is 3 weeks later in November. I'm torn because I'm a huge Halloween fan and also love to celebrate birthdays, but this being our first anniversary, I'd like to do something neat for that too.

Any thoughts?

And no- I don't think it's likely that going for both is an option- as much as I'd want to!

Halloween may be more fun, but I probably wouldn't decide based on the party which is mostly the same but slightly lacking at DL. DL does offer ride overlays on Space and HM. Also pumpkin carving in the Big Thunder Ranch. Those extras happen during the day and the ride lines are longer during the party.

In November you may hit the Holiday Season. It will possibly start on the 12th. Special firework and parade are part of the season and not exlusive to Holiday parties like in the MK.

Your anniversary is 3 weeks from Halloween?? As in around Thanksgiving time??? Although the week of Thanksgiving is not a good time to go at all...the week after is really good!!...they have not yet announced the dates for the Candlelight Processional but its usually always the first weekend in Dec....if you can go say the sunday after thanksgiving that would be perfect...all the christmas decorations are up and DL doesnt have the MVMCP like at wdw so everyone gets to see the Christmas Fantasy parade which has been around since my daughter was little and she will be 26 in Oct. as well, the holiday fireworks and snow too...its just an awesome time to go...if that is too late then the only other time to go would be the days after Halloween but they will have only a few decorations up at that time and you DONT want to go during veterans day weekend:sad2:..also, the first few days in Nov. is when they film the Christmas Day Parade:goodvibes

If it were me,I think I would do DL for the birthday and maybe Napa/Sonoma or Monterey/Carmel or some other romantic place closer to home for the anniversary.

Of course my very first thought was get an AP and do both, but you excluded that. :)

No, I meant our anniversary is about 3 weeks after my birthday- it's November 13th. My birthday is October 20th. So that would be a really close time frame for two trips to Southern CA.

I know better than to do Disney the week of Thanksgiving! lol I was a WDW CM for over 8 years!

Ususally when we go to the LA area, we stay with my aunt and uncle or my sister, but I think it would be really fun to stay a couple nights at a Disney resort instead- they are pretty pricy, though, so I'm not sure if we actually will.

DH is leaning towards prefering to go for our anniversary since I have spent many birthdays at WDW, and we will only have one first anniversary. (This year I'm turning 31 which isn't a particularly special birthday- I went to visit my cousin in NYC for my 30th last year.)

Oh tough one... Good points have already been made for going on either date. Which one will better fill the Disney void?;)

Anniversary this year & Birthday next year! Get at AP ;)
Stay at least 2 nights at one of the DL hotels then stay the rest of your trip with family
Happy planning!

Hm...yeah, that is an option of course...or we could pick a time right in between and celebrate both at the same time. hehe.

I don't think we will make it there often enough to justify an AP- and anyway, I have lots of friends who are still CMs who have offered to send us comps periodically. (I still have two comps left from being one myself- I just left the company in January.)
