The flight I want is less points so why does it keep telling me I owe $8000 more points? I’m so confused!

Are you searching for just one person, but trying to change the booking for more people? I sometimes do a search to check if points have dropped, will see a lower point value, but if my booking is for two people, that lower point value isn't available because there's only one seat left at that price. This is usually the only issue I run into if I'm trying to rebook for lower points.

Or do you have both departing and returning flights on the same reservation? Are you inadvertently checking that you want to change both? Maybe one is more points, but the other is less and that's why it's asking you for more points to complete the transaction.
