I’m trying to be positive! We booked a trip June 21-24. I was excited that most days were blocked out for AP holders, hoping it would help with summer crowds. I saw they opened most of those dates back up. Then I saw toy story mania is off limits until the 23rd, which I am sure will be swamped. Then today I get a call canceling my world of color dessert party.

I just feel kinda deflated. And I know I shouldn’t, because it will still be fun, but it’s been theee disappointing hits in a row.

Anyone have any words of wisdom that might help get me out of this funk?

With my PP in mind, I am going to use the email I got from Disney today cancelling WOC...

This letter is to regretfully inform you The World of Color Dessert Party is being canceled due to technically difficulties. Like you, we were very excited about the show and hope to have everything resolved as quickly as possible. However, please enjoy all the other magic Disney has to offer during your stay with us. And then the murders began.

Hahahahaha! That’s awesome!

Happy2B, I’m in the same boat you are. We are in the park 19-23 and I was so excited to splurge on the dessert party for our last night for our group of 8. And we’d picked these dates very carefully, way last fall. We are using our points at GCV so changing isn’t an option, even if we could change airfare.

But I’m trying to refocus. I haven’t been since 2015. It’s a big trip for each of my kids: DD21 is bringing her boyfriend and he’s bringing his 2 year old daughter. They’ve never flown! His daughter keeps saying “I’m so cited to go to Minnie Mouse House!!!” My 12 year old DD is bringing a friend for the first time and they are really excited to have some independence in the parks together. And our DS8 hasn’t been since he was 5 and nervous about a lot of rides. He’s so much taller and braver now and I think he’ll try everything.

None of them know about the black out changes and wouldn’t really pay attention if I tried to tell them. So I’m just going to try and pretend I never knew about these changes, and that I never decided to spend over $500 on that damn party. Just do my best planning, take full advantage of emh, and use some of the savings from the party to buy maxpass every day instead of just 2-3 days.

You are going to Disneyland!!!!!! I am home in 100+ weather.

I'm a planner and I think I'd be super frustrated if I planned around AP blockouts, only to have the blockouts lifted. Having said that, I think you can have a great time. A couple thoughts:
1 - get Maxpass. It does so much to help alleviate the effect of crowds. While everyone else will be hot and confused and tired of lines, you can still do a lot if you know how to navigate Maxpass. We are coming up on the end of our year of Disney. First time (and possibly last time) AP holders. We've had a lot of fun even during very busy days because of Maxpass. Make sure to get new fast passes as soon as you are able. This worked especially great when we took afternoon breaks. For example, around noon I would get RSR FP for evening time, then every 90 minutes I would get another FP for evening time, starting with the ones that would run out fastest. When we went back, we had FP lined up and ready to go. Other people were waiting in lines that were 2+ hours long.
2 - use the money you would have spent on the dessert party to add little splurges along your trip. I usually think of more treats, but you may prefer a souvenir or something else instead.

My best advice for a "planner" is to do all the research and planning ahead of time that you want, but when you get to the parks loosen up and go with the flow. It is a busy place and can be very overwhelming and overstimulating. There will be things that don't go according to plan. Use your research and knowledge to adjust and you'll be fine. Have a great time!
