Trying to avoid GayDays 2004

It wasnt because of a fear, it was more a crowd issue,

Crowd issue indeed! I have been to Disney twice during Gay Days. The first time during my first trip in 1995, with my best friend. I didn't notice the crowds being overly heavy, but then again, it was my 1st trip, I had nothing to compare it to. Since then, I have been a few times, and in May 2001 we were there during GayDays. Since 1995, they had incorporated the red shirts, so not only did the red stand out, it made you more aware fo just how crowded MK was. It was so crowded, I said bad, bad words. LOL.

You need to know, atthe time of this trip, I had been diagnosed with Rheumatiod Arthritis the DAY before we left. My knees were becoming the size of basketballs. I tried to go as long as I could without renting a scooter, but toward the end of the week, I was nearly crippled. I rented a scooter. This was a Saturday in MK during GAy Days. We went to lunch at Cosmic Ray's. It was PACKED but the kids were hungry and we needed to get out of the heat and into a/c. Dh sat with the kids while I stood in a very long line. Come to find out, the computers were down. So, a CM had to come around and give us a menu checklist. We had to fillout what we wanted to order, give it to the CM, she gave it to the kitchen, and they were adding the price with a calculator. I do not like watching pdoa, straight or gay, but this particular day, I was surrounded by red shirts, and some of the couples decided to show each other how much they meant to each other while waiting in line. I could feel my blood pressure rise. I could not satnd much longer, so I left the line and sent DH back. That was fine, we got our food and it was forgotten. Scooting around on the scooter, by the end of the day, the kids wanted a train ride, so we decided to take the train from Toon Town to the main gate and leave. Little did I know that the scooter could not go on the train, so, DH took the kids on the train while I said I would ride back and meet him at the entrance. Scooter's battery died in Tomorrowland. Sure, it has a phone number to call, but I did not have a phone. Took the key, left the scooter and practically crawled to the entrance. I get out to where my husband was, turned in the key and told them where the scooter was, and was ready to cry because I could not walk another step, yet I still had to walk to the busses. DH decides to ask if I picked up the pictures at the picture store on Main ST. I rolled my eyes, and hobbled back down main street...saw the line of red shirts coming out into the streets from the picture store, I turned right around and told DH forget it. Don't need the pictures that bad. ( these were the pictures they take of you with characters.

I will forever avoid GayDays from that day forward. Grant it, had I been healthy, I could of handled the crowd alot better, but it was such a nightmare for me, and I have nothing agianst gays. My best friend is gay. They just know how to fill up the MK!!!!

Oh, there was one objectional thing I saw at GayDays. It was a man with a red t-shirt, and the t-shirt pretty much explicitly stated what he want to do with Mickey Mouse. OK, live your life anyway you want, but you don't MESS with the MOUSE!!!! :p

My daughter and I always seem to visit WDW at this time (5 trips) and I have never noticed anything different. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know about GayDay until our last trip in 2002. (I guess I'm just slow...lol) Just stay away from the Magic Kingdom on Saturday (but this is a rule of thumb anyway no matter the time of year).

We've been there during gay days and besides the size of the crowd and the long lines, there weren't any problems.

I think you see more PDA's with teens than you do adults.

I am still so pleased that this thread has stayed so positive and friendly, you all deserve a pat on the back!

Gay Days is my all-time, hands-down favorite time at the parks. DH, DS (4) and I visit almost every year during this week. There are several reasons we love it: Not too hot, not too crowded (schools haven't let out for summer in many places). Never once have we had any questions from our 4 year old. And if we do this year, I can't think of a better place to explain different types of love than at WDW!
