Trying something new~

Just a thought -- if you have a TCF bank near you, they offer free checking. Then you can use their coin counting machine for free. You can use it if you're a non-member, too, but they take a fee like the CoinStar machines do. Our credit union also lets members use the machine for free.

Our bank (commerce) has a coin counter and they make it fun for kids with a screen at their level.

We've done this for years also. DH has always made a game out of it. The night before he has the change counted, he does a game of -guess how much? Everyone going on the trip writes on paper how much they think is in the jar along with their name. The slips get crumpled up in a jar and locked up until the next day. DH makes a big deal of this. Then he brings home the receipt with the amount counted and the kids go through the slips to check the winner. Top winner gets $50 and the runner up gets $25. The prize money is theirs to be spent however they want. The rest of the money is for the vacation fund. We have a lot of fun with this.

We wrap our own too. I took about $130 in change rolls to our bank last year. No complaints from the teller. I always get the wrappers from the bank. Ask for ALOT so you have them in stock.
