I'm coming here for encouragement from you folks because I know what a great community this is.

I've been trying to lose weight for a year now and I haven't been able to stick with anything. I've tried the exercise challenge here, I've tried WW, I've tried the Couch to 5K running plan and given up on them all.

The only thing I still love is the pool. The other day, one of the folks I swim with said I should join the Master's team that practices 3 nights a week. They swim for about an hour and also do dryland training, the workouts are coached so people can improve their strokes and their progress is measured.

I went to a meeting last night with the coach and watched part of the practice. I think I can keep up with them, but I'm a little nervous.

Should I swallow my fear and try anyway?
 
If that is what you enjoy then do it! You have to enjoy it or you won't stick with it. Good for you on wanting to get healthy....
 
I say go for it!!! You can do it!!!
 
You'll just regret it if you don't join up. So what if you can't hang with the team at first? You are there, and you'll be part of a group supporting you to push yourself! :thumbsup2

that's you -- swallowing that big lump of fear :teeth: you can do it! i'm betting they would love to have a newcomer. your enthuaism will refresh them, i have felt that way walking with new powerwalkers. it's invigorating! and those 'pros' remember what it felt like to start, they will not belittle you, but they will encourage you!

i can't imagine swimming for an hour! i totally sink! i admire your ability to swim that well!
 
You never know what you are capable of if you don't try. If swimming is your thing and you are willing to give it a go and are committed I say go for it! This may be exactly what you are looking for.
 
What a great adventure! I predict that this will be the thing that will get you on your way to a successful and healthier you!

Why don't you just do it! What do you have to lose? (tee hee-pun intended)

Finding an exercise that you like (or love) is the best way to stick to it. Go For It!
