In late July, we'll be going to WDW and staying at VWL for the first time. (BWV is our home, but DS -- age 10 -- and DH wanted to try VWL.) We stayed at WL once a lonngggg time ago (seven years ago), but I haven't really followed many of the posts about VWL since we usually stay at our home resort.

Those of you who own at VWL or who stay there frequently, any tips or things to try out? We'll be doing the parks some, but we will have time to hang around the lodge. (We know it will be much less busy than the BoardWalk, but since we just returned from a two week trip to Cedar Point, Washington DC, and Busch Gardens, a little quiet will be a good thing, I think!) Any transportation tips? We really hate to drive once we get down there, but I usually drive to the water parks when we go. Please share!

Thanks!

Julie

I would suggest that if your schedule permits, you should rent bicycles or watercraft and take advantage of the beauty of the setting.

Also, get a Hidden Mickey clue sheet from Guest Services....it's a fun way to spend some time around the resort.

Head down by the marina and enjoy the Electric Water Pageant...I would think your son would enjoy it a lot...kind of like a small parade coming right by the resort.

He would probably also enjoy the duck races in the afternoon...ask at Guest Services about that too.

We have found the bus service to be pretty good on our trips, and the boat to MK is kind of an "attraction" all by itself as it makes its way past the Contemporary Resort to MK. I agree about driving to the water parks, and we also tend to drive to AK from there...it just seems like it takes a long time to do that by bus. And we drive to Downtown Disney. Other than that, we just relax and enjoy the Disney transportation.

Have a great trip! :)

stayed there (VWL) in 2003 and loved it. only problem was at check-in they tried to stick me with the only room without a balcony (4533/studio :confused3 ) and I refused it. Me being a coffee drinker and early riser (5:30 am) I like to sit on the balcony and have coffee till wife gets up.
One of the reasons We bought DVC WAS that they had balconys. I can't see being cooped up in a room all week without a balcony, JMHO

these boards alerted me to the no balcony room(4533/studio) so I was ready when they gave it to me and just said no-way. they gave me another room right away.

electric water parade down by the lake you might like.
