When I left off, we had fallen asleep after enjoying Illuminations from our room. We all slept great and were up around 6:30 with out an alarm clock or wake up call! I love that well rested feeling, and that wonderful feeling of having your whole vacation in front of you.
This morning we were heading to Disneys Hollywood Studios. We wanted to get there at rope drop, so we could ride Toy Story Mania wed heard so much about. The ride wasnt open when we were last there in 2008. Also, DD was really looking forward to Rock n Rollercoaster.
I had the local weather on, while we were getting ready and knew it was going to be cold & windy. So we donned all of the layers we had and headed out. Just as we got to the boat dock a boat pulled away. We stopped to discuss whether we wanted to wait or just hoof it. A man waiting there overheard us and said if it was just him hed hoof it. At the same time a cold gust of wind hit us, and DH & I both agreed walking to DS was way better then waiting 20mins for the next boat.
So we set off on foot, the path to Disney Studios from the Dolphin is just gorgeous; it follows the water the whole way. DH & I walked a fast pace and DD skipped most of the way. Before we knew it we were there maybe 10 - 12 minutes at most. But I didnt actually keep track.
We walked through the no bags line and got in the first line we saw, I checked my watch and we still had 20 mins to rope drop. The walk had really warmed us up, but now we started to feel the cold just standing there waiting. Soon enough they opened the turnstile and we all started moving in one large heard. It still wasnt official rope drop time, so we were all stopped in the middle of the street waiting.
I looked up scanning the crowd, and what did I see?? But these famous disers standing before me .
Underdog369, Winkers, Jordan, Englishrose47, & Blueyed Girl. I said to DH, hey I know them from the Dis, and he looked at me in disbelief. I said you know, the pictures I showed you a few weeks ago, thats Jordan who was jumping in the Target aisle, and thats Blueyed Girl, the one with the great dance series of pictures. He chuckled at the memory, and said Well then say Hi in that kind of I bet you dont dare to tone.
I took a deep breath and thought here goes nothing.... and I said Hey Jordan he turned around and just looked at me like Should I know this strange woman who knows my name? I introduced myself and told him I knew them all from the disboards.
Then I looked at Blueyed Girl, and told her we loved her dance pictures! She looked kind of shocked by that . We all talked for a bit, Underdog (Winkers DH) & I talked a lot about Washington State, and the poor carousel horse.
We took a few pictures, and then soon enough they dropped the ropes and we followed them all to Toy Story Mania.
Well actually Underdog was infront of us, and I just stayed right on his tail, as to not get swallowed by the crowd. Those guys all diverted for FPs, but DH wanted to head for the standby line so we did.
I guess he wanted to make sure we really liked it before getting Fast Passes to do it again. We made our way pretty quickly through the Standby line and soon were boarding our little car. It was great fun, DD & I rode together and DH by himself. This ride was really so much better than we all expected. We finally realized what all the hubbub was about. DH was the big winner, and the fist thing out of his mouth was Lets get FPs to do it again later.
So we checked one new item off our to do list, and decided wed head for Rock N Rollercoaster then we noticed the Ariel show was getting ready to start, and there was no line. When we were there in 2008, we waited in the line for 45 minutes, and they closed the door like 3 people in front of us, so we gave up and got out of line. Since wed never seen it before, and we were right there, we decided to do that first. We loved it and Im so glad we saw it! Two new items checked off to do list!
After voyaging with Ariel it was off to a long awaited show down with Rock N Rollercoaster!! You see my little Dare Devil DD was just a hair too short to ride in 2005. Then in 2008 we ended up at DS on a cheer weekend. :rollseyes The standby line for RnR was 2hrs and there were no fast passes left. She was crushed.
This year we promised her wed standby no matter how long it was. We rounded the corner and VOILA 15 minute standby!! Hooray we jumped in line and not even 10 minutes later we were in the booth with the boys from Aerosmith!! I was a tad bit worried she wouldnt like how dark it was. In 2005 she rode Tower of Terror, the ride didnt bother her, but she didnt like the dark parts.
So off we go, speeding down the dark highway Ive got my neck cranked to the side trying to gauge the expression on her face, but much to my relief she was all smiles even yelling out yahooooooo as we were corkscrewing!! Our car came to a stop, and before we could ask her how she liked it, she proclaimed Lets do that again!
So we jumped right back in that standby line. It said 20mins now, and it was a bit longer but still not 20 minutes. This time DD wanted to ride with DH, so I got pared up with a single rider. He was so sweet, young 20s and scared to death. He told me he was scared of heights and wanted to know if it was high. I assured him it was not high, and DD turned and looked and said dont worry its dark you wont know how high you are.
Then she looks at him real serious and says but it does go upside down, are you good with that? LMAO I was laughing and I assured him hed be fine, and that we could girly scream together!! I think he almost bailed when he saw a limo take off in front of us but he pulled it together and jumped aboard with us. So again, Im concentrating on him, is he ok, having fun? Not puking? LOL Much to my relief he was smiling and girly screaming all the way through. He told me he loved it and wanted to know if we were going again, he was coming with us. We decided to head off for other adventures and bid our friend goodbye!
We had time for one more thing before heading to 50s PT for lunch, and what lay before us, but The Great Movie Ride yes another attraction, we had not taken the time to do previously we were in! In the past we had rushed from headline to headline, and skipped so many things along the way. I was really enjoying this more relaxed touring style.
The Great Movie Ride behind us it was time for lunch! Our cereal and pastries had long worn off, and we were ready for some good home cooking. We made our way to 50s Prime Time we checked in and headed to the bar. Before I could even grab a bar stool, our names were called!
We were seated in a small room off to the side, with only three tables. It was nice except for the freezing a/c blowing on us, that they couldnt seem to turn off. Everyone in the room had their coats on eating.
Although we'd been good about branching out and trying new things Dh & I both ordered what we always do Pot Roast for me, Fried Chicken for him, Chicken Nuggets for DD.
Actually I did try something new; I had a Magical Star Cocktail instead of a glass of wine. I enjoyed the cocktail, it almost tasted like a second, but since it was only lunch time, and we had an Illuminations dinner at Rose & Crown later this evening, I behaved and stuck with the one.
Our waiter was entertaining, and engaging. He tried the Kazoo airplane trick to get a boy at the next table to eat his meal that ended in tears unfortunately but we told DD she better clean her plate.
The problem with DD is that she doesnt really like Chicken Nuggets, she thinks she does, she wants to like them. She just doesnt. She did have a good amount of my Pot Roast and DHs chicken, but she still had one nugget left on her plate. She tried to get her father to eat it so she wouldnt get the kazoo but it was too late she was busted, and soon her chicken nugget was on the end of a fork, flying toward her mouth. I could tell she REALLY didnt want it, but she was a good sport and ate it. She told us later she wasnt happy about it though. Hee hee.
During our meal, I get a tap on my shoulder, I thought it must be our foolish waiter busting me for something, but no it was Jordan again! He was in 50s PT for lunch with his family and was walking around and saw us so stopped to say Hi.
Its funny, how you just meet someone, and you already feel like you know them. Well probably for me, its from a couple years of lurking on various trip reports, Ive seen Jordans picture so many times, and read his stories I felt like I knew him well. It was fun to visit again for a few minutes and he was off to find Winkers & Underdog I believe who were also there for lunch.
We finished our lunch with no room for dessert we decided to head back to TSM and use those fast passes that were due!! We loved our second go around, especially me, I kicked both their butts this time.
Our next biggest priority was the Indy Stunt Show. We have seen Lights Motors Action many times, and love it, but weve never seen Indy ... Mostly because of timing, and also because it was down for the cheer competition the last time we were there. We had a bit of time before the next show, so we fit in a quick Star Tours ride.
Then it was time for our date with Indy we walked into the theater, and they had just opened up the end section as we were walking in, so we walked right to the front row and sat down! It was off to the side, but still GREAT to be in the front row! We all LOVED this show and it will now be on our must do list.
After Indy we all felt satisfied wed ridden or seen everything we had on our to do list and wed done TSM & RnR twice we felt ready to head back to the Dolphin. I quickly asked walk, boat or bus and unanimously we all said walk. We had enjoyed the walk this morning, but now, it was warmer the sun was shinning and we didnt feel rushed.
We headed back along that beautiful walkway, this time just strolling along soaking it all in. Funny the walk seemed so much shorter this time.
Up next time: Hanging with the fishes & an Illuminations Dinner at Rose & Crown that will never be forgotten.
