Let me start by saying this is a trip report written for my family:
Me ~ Amy 37(for the rest of this month)
DH 39
DD 8
I am writing it as a keepsake. I do not expect to keep you on the edge of your seats, I don’t have the gift of humorous story telling as so many on these boards do. This report is about getting all of the wonderful memories and surprises on paper, well the paper on my computer screen, before they vanish from my brain forever. ;)

I feel we were blessed during this trip in many ways. No not the extreme cold and wind, that was a bummer, but in so many other unexpected ways. After lots of planning torment, switching resorts, juggling of ADR’s, and all kinds of stress I caused my self I finally had an epiphany… slow down and enjoy it all. Try new things.

I’m a planner, an over planner, my DH would say. I planned this trip for almost a year, I got a great AAA rate at the Dolphin and I booked it. I was thrilled to be staying in the Epcot area, our favorite area to be. I read and researched everything about the Dolphin… I made tentative itineraries, printed maps asked questions. I was good!!

Then in September Disney dropped a bombshell on my lap. 7 for 4 package at Deluxe resorts… so I said to DH maybe we could go back to the Polynesian and stay an extra night take advantage of the deal. Sure it will cost a bit more, but we LOVE the Polynesian. So I booked that too. I had till December 26th to cancel the Disney reservation, and early February for the Dolphin. So I kept both reservations and made alternate itineraries… then the stress began, if we were staying at the Polynesian, I needed to reconsider ADR’s… I drove DH nuts with questions about picking a resort and which restaurants to try… I really wanted to try Il Mulino, but if we were staying at Polynesian with dining plan, maybe we’d do Tutto instead. I really wanted to try new restaurants, but I really wanted to go to the old favorites we love, like Ohana, Kona, & LeCellier. What to do?? What to do??? I really wanted to make up my mind before ADR day… :headache:

October 27, 2009 my DD’s 8th birthday, oh also ADR day!!! I had been waiting for this day for months along with 13 million other disboarders. I’d also been dreading it, along with 13 million other disboarders; it was the day Disney switched back from the old 90 day ADR window to 180 days. We all had anticipated problems but wow, what a mess… I was on line at 4 am no luck, system down, I tried constantly till 7am then I had to go to work… I called all day from work and sometimes it would ring, sometimes it would answer and play Disney music for 20 or 30 minutes, then magically disconnect me! ARGH I was so frustrated. I left work and headed home to get cooking for the 13 kids coming home on the bus with my DD so I called the dining line, put my cell and house phones on speaker phones, and cooked away. Finally a voice came on the line, but which phone? LOL

When I picked up the correct phone to talk to her she said, “oh sorry my system is down, but if you give me your phone number I’ll call you back when it’s up.” I wanted to scream, I’d been trying to get ADR’s made for almost 12hrs now, and I finally got through to a live person and her system is down. I was so deflated I thought, ya right she’ll never call me back, but I gave her my phone number, and went back to the business of DD’s 8th bday party.

What do you know, an hour or two later, the phone rings and it says WDW on the caller ID! She actually called me back, and her system was up, she was ready for me. I got everything I had asked for including: Le Cellier, Les Chefs, Coral Reef, Ohana etc… I knew once the online system was up I’d be playing with these restaurants and times, but it felt so good to have that initial list of ADR’s made!!! :thumbsup2 The sad thing is out of all of them I made that day when I was so nervous about getting them… the only 1 original reservation we still had come February was… 50’s Prime Time!!! :rotfl2:

Up next, the big decision, a big release and our first big surprise!

Sounds like some ups and downs, but hopefully more ups. Look forward to the next installment.

I had secured my initial list of ADR’s I was feeling pretty good, and then the thinking started. Do we really need to spend the extra money to stay at the Polynesian, would I be trying to relive an old vacation by staying there and eating at many of the same restaurants?

I was having the heart and brain struggle… my heart was saying remember how much you loved it there, the convenience of the monorail, the smells, the food, the fun. But my brain was saying, try something different, save some money, try new restaurants, have a new vacation experience.

It was quite stressful, and with the holidays approaching and all the business that comes with that, I couldn’t make a decision and I was driving my poor dh nuts hoping he’d influence my decision making, finally I said to my self “Hey dummy you were really excited when you made that Dolphin reservation, you loved the thought of staying in the Epcot area, before that deal came our you were so happy and excited about trying a new hotel, being in that area, and now your stressed.” That was my moment, I told DH what I was going to do and I called Disney and cancelled my Polynesian reservation before I lost my nerve or changed my mind.

It was amazing, it was like a weight had been lifted, I realized that I was trying so hard to repeat what was an almost perfect vacation I was ruining this one. We’re different people then we were in 2005… well we’re the same people just a little older, a little wider, err I mean wiser and hopefully people who are going to love staying at the Dolphin. ;)

I won’t bore you with the details about the 13 million times I changed our ADR’s and Itineraries, between this moment and the day before we left on vacation… but I will say a day or two before we left I really embraced the whole “try new things” and gave up one of the most coveted reservations in Disney for one of the most reviled.

Two days before leaving I was online switching my ADR’s again, I decided I’d check all of my confirmations one last time: Hotels, Flights, Car Rental, and so on. Then the biggest surprise I’ve had in a long time, right there in the middle of checking my Dolphin reservation I almost didn’t see it but there it was in small print...

confirmed resort view

I looked at it in shock, I hadn’t paid for a resort view, and I know it said traditional standard room the last time I checked. But now it says Resort View, it hit me… WE GOT AN UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOHOOOO I was dancing around the house with the laptop singing… We got an upgrade, we got an upgrade. :dancer::dancer::dancer:

If DH had a camera, it would have been perfect for Jordan’s thread. My DD came into the room, and after the initial “OMG what are you doing now Mum?” I stopped dancing long enough to explain the upgrade, and then thought… What if it’s a mistake? What if I close my browser window and open it again, will it be gone? As if knowing what I’m thinking, DH says “QUICK PRINT IT!”

I run to fire up the old desk top, because my brain was on overdrive and at the time that made more sense then just connecting the printer to the laptop. I successfully printed it and stuffed it into my passporter, with the original… just in case.

I checked that website 13 thousand times in those 48hrs before we left, and every time it still said those wonderful words… Resort View!!

Up next: We’re on our way, our airport hotel & restaurant is a pleasant surprise itself, and would we get our upgrade at check in???

Joining in. That's quite a start of your report. Can't wait to here more and hoping you get that upgrade.
