Trying a moderate resort

We have stayed at pop for the last 2 visits, but we want to consider a moderate resort. What one would you recommend for Children (ages 5 and 8)? which is nicest? which is better designed for children? closest walk to bus? best food? newest?

I was leaning towards CBR, but I am afraid my 8 year old will be too old to enjoy the little pool activities, it seems to be geared towards younger kids. Thoughts??? I think the best pool area and activities for my children will be one of the main concerns.

We recently stayed at Coronado Springs with kids aged 7 & 12. The large pool and water slide, kiddie pool & hot tub were great. It was sunny, so the resorts large size was not an issue, but could be more of an issue if it was rainy.

Caribbean beach is the largest moderate resort. So for less walking to all the amenities and faster bus service, I'd opt for something different. Coronado Springs is large as well but has great theming and dining options. Personally, I would go with Port Orleans Riverside. It's relaxing and romantic for adults but also can be adventurous for children. It has a themed pool with slide and additional quiet pools throughout the resort. They also have Royal Guest rooms that are decorated differently than the normal rooms. Light up head boards, magic lantern faucets, and tons of other Disney movie references in the entire room. Riverside occasionally shares bus/boat service with its counterpart French Quarter depending on the crowds, but usually there's never any overcrowding or longer transport time regarding that. Also, the food court and gift shop in Riverside are incredible! Great food options for everyone and lots of seating. Hope this helps

Oh and I forgot some things! If you request to stay in Magnolia Bend then there will be a little but very scenic walk to the main area where all of your amenities are located. Kids will love the dancing light up fountains and horse drawn carriage rides around the resort. Just seeing the large horses is great even if you don't ride! This is just an awesome resort overall; it's relatively close to everything, all rooms recently refurbished, and not too big.

Your 8 yr old would love the slide at CSR.

This is what I was going to suggest as well. We stayed at POFQ but went over to POR to use their pool; which is allowed since they are sister resorts. I would actually suggest staying at POR. I liked their pool and restaurant better.

We just got back from a stay at CSR and did not like it! The lay out of the rooms in the area we stayed was confusing (castias) We also paid for a preferred room and got a 4th floor room with NO view and a good walking distance from a bus stop. And the buses, YIKES!! don't get me started. However having said that the pool area was nice but not nice enough for me to stay there again.
Our last visit we stayed at POR and loved it!! Very relaxing, great rooms, buses were not packed and standing room only and the pool had just as great of a waterslide(per my daughter). POR would be my choice!

All of the resorts have been designed with families (and children) in mind. If you go to each of the resort specific threads, you will find any number of photos of the resorts. Have a good look and see which one feels the nicest to YOU. Everyone has their own favourite- it's a very personal choice.

Closest walk to the bus? Kind of depends on which building your room is in- all the resorts except for POFQ have multiple bus stops.

Best food? Depends on the kind of food you like- they all have food courts and all but POFQ have TS restaurant. We tend to only have breakfast at the resort- or maybe lunch on departure day. Food quality or choice has never been a deciding factor for us when looking at the mods.

Newest? None of them are new. But POR is the one that has had the most recent refurb.

Water/pool/play areas? I believe that all of the resorts have a splash pool for toddlers. They aren't really intended for older children. And all of the main pools have features aimed squarely at children, including the slides. The 3 larger mods all have great main pools with planned activities during the day. You just need to take a look and see which one appeals most to you. Fans of each resort will of course think that their's is best.

CSR Cabanas ... the area is awesome, the pool is amazing and you are close to the main building and2 bus stops.

OPers have given excellent advice. I would advise that if you want short walks either POFQ OR pay for a preferred room. All of the other moderates can be quite a hike to the main building, food court, etc.

Keep in mind that CBR still has double beds while all the other mods have queen beds. If you are a family of four, you may prefer queen beds so everyone is more comfortable.
