I have read reviews and some people love them and some people hate them. What about you? like 'em or hate 'em?

I need to block off the neighbors ugly trailer and yard that never gets mowed and I thought maybe planting this on a long arbour would help hide it.

If you want something that grows fast and is beautiful and covers more than trumpet vine, is evergreen to block the view all year round, try Lady Banks Rose. You have to prune it twice a year, but it is pretty all year round, thick and full and when it blooms is covered with hundreds of gorgeous yellow blossoms.

I've had very bad luck with a trumpet vine. It went everywhere and tons of babies that went everywhere. So I'd never recommend it, nor honeysuckle which will also go everywhere you don't want.

I've not seen the Rose that was recommended, but I would check that out.

Thanks for your replies. I am going to do a search for the Lady Banks Rose.

Hi AWM, any idea how to get rid of honeysuckle? you are right. I put in one little plant and now it is popping up everywhere! Help!!!

You are so not going to like this.
1.) Physically dig them out. Younger plants, with good soil moisture, will pull out fairly easily. Honeysuckle roots are generally close to the surface of the ground. Or, take a sharp spade and dig them out, making sure you remove the center crown of the plant’s roots. If you get rid of this crown, typically they won’t re-grow from the remaining roots.

2.) For larger plants, simply cut the plant off at ground level and immediately treat the freshly cut stump with concentrated Roundup, straight. Do this as soon as you make the cut, or the stump will seal over within a couple hour period. If next year it sends up sucker growth, spray immediately with Roundup.

Hope that helps.

i have a trumpet vine growing on an arbor in my backyard, i actually like it. i can't say i LOVE it; but it blooms beautifully. i only have mild volunteer babies in unwanted places and i just pull them when i weed. they aren't really a problem. my problem with it is keeping it pruned nicely b/c i don't give it the time i should i guess. also this year we had lots of wind and blew all the blooms off early and i had yucky wilty blooms everywhere in my mulch.

Thanks, that help a lot. You were right, though, I didn't like it. I was hoping for something easier!

I forget where I recently was, but there was a beautiful trumpet vine on a trellis and there was a hummingbird enjoying the blossoms. I guess it's important to look to see if you have the room for the vine to spread out.

I tried to get one to grow along a back fence in the back yard, in NJ, but it didn't "take."

Bobbi :)
