Big expense here and I need advice. I have narrowed it down to these to seats. Unless someone seriously talks me out of it! We will be having a baby in April and want to get stuff going now. Which one do you think?
Thanks a ton!

there are alot of factors to consider besides price, how does the seat fit in your vechicle, how big is baby and how do they fit, are two of the biggest. check out car-seat.org if you havent already they have a great message board with lots of great advice and alot of times people may have your vechile and have tried those seats in it.

I personally have not used either one of these seats, but have heard good things about both. Is it going to be your first and only seat for the baby? I used a snugride for when the kids were infants then with the last one got an evenflo truimph advance and now he rides in a graco nautilus. I really like the evenflo for a convertible seat. it was easy to adjust, use and install.

Are you buying this for a newborn? If so, what are you going to carry the infant in if he/she is sleeping in the car and you need to get out? In other words, are you buying an infant seat? If so, you probably won't need a convertible seat for a minimum of 6 months to 18 months after the baby is born. Wait until you get closer to needing it to buy one. With that said, I highly recommend the Britax ones for convertible seats. We had the Boulevard which also goes to 65 lbs and has great safety ratings and fit really well in our CR-V. Once our son got too tall for the Boulevard, we went with a forward facing only seat, the Britax Frontier at 4.5 years.

I have a Graco My Ride 65 which allowed me to keep my daughter rear facing until she was 28 months old. She could have stayed a little longer but she kept putting her leg over the side and getting it caught between the seat and door so we had to turn her around. It is a great seat. I bought it for her after she outgrew her infant seat shortly after her first birthday. As the others have mentioned if you are going to use an infant seat at all then you really don't need to buy another seat until your baby gets close to outgrowing the infant seat. Car Seats expire so why have a seat just sitting around for a year wasting the time available to use the seat. Now if you are not doing a infant seat and just going straight to a convertible seat then I would highly recommend the My Ride.

I haven't used either seat either. Just wanted to give you a few things to think about.

Are you using these seats when baby is born? Carseats DO have an expiration (usually about 7 yrs), so if you buy it a year early, you'll have a year less to use it.

Go to Babies R Us (BRU) and put each seat in your vehicle. Some fit better than others.

I LOVE the carseat board on the babycenter. That is where I get all my carseat info from. You can post on there and see what their opinions are.

Also, in September I think it is BRU has their trade in event where you can get 20% off (I think that's what it is). I got my DD4s new Britax Frontier 85 there, saving $80 I think?

We just got the myride 65 last month for DS and we really like it. And he seems to be pretty comfortable in it. He'll be 7 months tomorrow and had just gotten too big and heavy to be in the infant seat anymore.

Good points. I was not thinking about an infant carrier AT ALL. I guess we should get one of those first huh! Yikes, now I need to go and research those.

You don't HAVE to get an infant carrier, but they are very convenient and most people do like them. If you have a trusted friend or family member who has a newer (less than 5 years) infant carrier you can borrow that's one way to go. Just be sure that it's not expired, was never in an accident, was used properly...the only way you can be sure about this is if it's someone you know and TRUST you're getting it from. Otherwise, get a Graco SnugRide (FRONT adjust ONLY) or a Chicco KeyFit.

I agree with the PP who said if you ARE getting a carrier do NOT buy the convertible seat now. It will be a waste of money. Wait until you're just about done with the carrier and THEN research. The seats may change, you might find you have a chunky baby, or a super tall one...and that might change your mind. You might change vehicles. All are factors. Although I can say that BOTH of the seats you mentioned are excellent choices and you'll likely be very happy with either one if those are what you end up getting.

Also be sure to read the owner's manual for every car seat you buy, as well as the section on car seat installs for each vehicle you are putting a seat into. And if you can find a certified car seat tech (CPST) local to you, also have them check your install just to be sure you've installed and are using your car seats properly.

If you have more questions on car seats as you go forward I'd recommend visiting car-seat.org. It's the Disboards for car seats! :goodvibes
