Truck stops?

Anyone ever stay overnight at truck stops on their way to and from the fort?

We almost always boondock at walmarts. Just feels a little safer than a truck stop. We've slept in a few rest stops on 95, but I prefer to get off the highway.

Haven't really stayed at a truck stop per say, when we go down to Fl. we leave in the afternoon, (VT) at about 4pm so we miss much of the big city traffic. We or I drive to the other side of DC before stopping, about 1 am for our special breakfast and a quick shower to wake me back up, (10.00 for shower at the truck stop) then it is back on the road. They have plenty of room for cars, trailers and motorhomes. I don't think they will say anything to you if you pulled in and bunked down for a few hours. I use to drive otr and all the bigger truckstops had campers in them. They are a great resting spot.

Never tried it, usually drive all the way through. Truck stops are probably just as safe or safer than Wal Mart.

Think about it, truckers (got a few in the family) are kinda like camping people. They look out for each other on the road, including truckstops. Heard more than one story about a potential thief getting stomped because he was caught trying to get into someone's rig.

Also, if you look, some rest stops will have on duty security as well. This might make these locations appealing as well.

I have stayed over in truck stops several times. The Flying J in Gainesville worked out well when I was towing home solo from WDW after leaving late.

I've noticed a recent trend in truck stops since they changed the drive/rest requirements for commercial drivers. Seems like the semi spots are getting filled up by 6 or 7 each night by the drivers hitting their 10 hr drive/14 hr work per day limits.

Too many times when we are towing home from a race, we can't find a place to park when we want to run in and get something to eat.
