Troubles with Engines on 3/1/8 Disney Eastern Cruise

Anybody else notice a whole bunch of new posters on this thread with only 1 post in their history and one with 5 posts. Seems like some old posters with new screen names :rolleyes1

I was thinking this also and they all seem to be New Cruisers theres something fishy here

I was NOT on this ship. I have only sailed DCL once so far.

I just wanted to point out, in reading this thread and the other thread, that the people who are upset about missing ports ARE UPSET BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL FAILURE....NOT ABOUT THE WEATHER. This is what I have picked up on most of the posts.

Sure everyone would be upset about missing a port due to weather (wind, hurricanes, tides, etc). But they would understand that Disney can not control the weather. (i have missed a private island on my first cruise on Royal Carribbean...not to mention it was the first sailing after 9/11 happened, and a tropical storm was going on out there...we had to just go with the flow and accept that bad weather happens).

However, Disney can certainly control Mechanical issues. If it is their fault that ports were missed, then they should make it up to the Guests on the cruise. If it was due to weather ONLY then they shouldn't have to.

Most people who were NOT on the cruise seem to only be picking up on the point of the possible bad weather, not the mechanical problems that seem to have been going on.

Thank You Thank You Thank You........ :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: You are the first person who was not on the ship with us who gets it or at least posted it once you got it..... :flower3: 4 U...... This is EXACTLY the problem.... It did get extremly hard to keep the kids occupied.... It became so much work.... Kids only can make flubber so many times. The kids only can see the same characters and stand in line for photos so many times... The pools became yellow and very crowded to the point I pulled mine out. I just felt I would have not have paid $10,000 for what I was given. Now we paid $12,000 the cruise before that, which was NOT our first DCL cruise either and to this day still tell everyone it was worth every penny. Now this cruise, we felt we were short changed. Again, not complaining about the weather, instead complaining about the mechanical problems that were treated as "too bad, too sad". I  DCL as to the reason I keep going back, but did not feel this trip was worth my $10,000. BTW- have not heard anything yet on this end.

I have some info for you all. We were on the Magic from 2/23-3/1/08 on the Western itinerary. When taking the tender back to the ship from Grand Cayman, 3 gentlemen were on the tender with luggage. My assumption was they missed the boat and met the ship here. Unfortuantely they didnt fit the profile of vacationers. My curiosity got the best of me so I asked them jokingly if they missed the boat. They replied No, they were mechanics flown in to fix the engine problems. We never experienced any mechanical problems that I am aware of during our cruise but Disney was aware of the problem on 2/27/08. Also, while taking the Galley tour I was snooping and saw a fax stating they were departing Port Canaveral at 1600 on 3/1/08 instead of the usual 1700. What was that all about?:confused3

FF/MEDIC MEL: You may be the "Erin Brokovich" of this whole mess. That may lead to the cause of action: Disney was on notice of the engine problem. Too bad you didn't "photo copy" that memo like the movie....

I know if I paid a whole bunch of $$$ and got a call of engine problems, I would have moved my date - hopefully at the same cost. Should Disney have INFORMED the 3/1 cruisers of this problem? Did they have the obligation? Who knows?

Welcome new/old posters.... Big deal. :dance3:

I just wanted to extend my sympathies to all of you who missed CC and most of the day at St Maarten on the recent Eastern cruise. I would have been very disappointed and probably pretty annoyed, too. I hope you do get a postive response from DCL. I agree that this is a customer service issue. Whether they are "at fault" or not -- it's still good customer service to make sure your customer walks away happy, not resentful.

Because of the costs, we've probably only got one shot at a DCL cruise, so I'm praying ours (in May) goes off without a hitch! :genie:

K. :cloud9:

I totally understand the disappointment, but if DCL felt the mechanical issues were major, they would have done something differently. It's been stated several times that the ship can function without 1 engine. It seems to be a combined mechincal and weather issue. Either way, it does stink, and DCL did give OBC. Not enough, well as pointed out on the previous thread, according to the contract you sign, DCL didn't even have to do that. You are not guaranteed and of the ports or even sailing on a DCL ship! It just how cruising goes.

Trip insurance trip insurance trip insurance. It should cover certain things that were missed. DCL is a business and they aren't going to refund money or give you a free cruise. It's not going to happen.

If you don't want to sail DCL again, fine, your choice. My MIL will never sail NCL ever again. Everyone has their line in the sand.

I think some feel they are entitled to a perfect vacation, and if not provided they should be compensated. Life isn't like that. Stuff happens.
Sorry.

I want to make this my last comment as I am tired of hearing about it... Just want to ask, we got the insurance and through DCL.... What are they going to give me back... Zip... nada.... none..... Would have rather did an alternative port of call than to have everyday a sea day but one. All I have to say for those who keep commenting, I sure hope you have a MAGICAL journey when you cruise... Let it die and move on. We have with you guys here, as you can not help. We have moved on, since we are so use to being in motion, we got a lot of practice moving...:hippie:

Tink's my girl - so I have to have my last hurrah word on a thread interest we share:

I was on that trip, too. Frankly - it's a lot like labor and delivery -- it's totally painful when it's happening -- but now, 19 days later -- I can't even remember the bad parts -- I'm still grinning ear to ear about the best trip of my life.....

labor pains.....I have three kids....those labor pains didn't deter me - obviously!

Shout out, Tink!

This thread is making me nervous:scared1: We will be on the Wonder on 3/27, have been working on this cruise for 2 years. I have been  :yay: supper excited for months. Now all I can think about is the weather messing up our chances of stopping at CC.  How is the weather at this time of the year?? I'll be biting my nails until i'm on that beach:worship: :worship:

We were on this cruise as well, and believe it or not, we were TOLD that the cruise was leaving early due to some "mechanical problems." We knew from the beginning that the engines were not operating at full capacity, but were assured that it was not an issue. After we were 4.5 hours late for St. Maarten, we were told that they "hoped" the problem would be fixed that day, and we would NOT be late for St Thomas (of course not - it's right next door!). Were these same mechanical issue responsible for us missing CC? I suspect so, but where's the proof...sigh... We're sad that the cruise had to turn out that way - very disappointing. Still we had a pretty nice time, and we hold no grudge against Disney, but if we're entitled to some $$ back, we'll take it! I don't see us doing another cruise - we have discovered we are NOT cruise people, but DW will see us again real soon.

We were on the Magic in February and had engine troubles that led to only having half a day at castaway cay. Half is better than none. They gave us free drinks, free rentals on the cay and their apologies. We ate the Island lunch on board, ribs ect... What can you do, these things happen. I thought they'd have them fixed by the time you went in March.
