Trouble uploading avatar today

I uploaded an avatar the other day, and all was fine. I altered it slightly today and it won't upload - I've tried all sorts. It's less than 100x100 pixels (although the original one I uploaded the other day was over 500...)

Any suggestions...?

I had this issue and read many replies that said to keep trying. I tried a few times a day over maybe 3 days and magically one day it worked. I was always trying to upload the exact same file but it kept rejecting it.
