Hey! We leave in 9 days and I can't wait!!! We are driving through Sarnia to the Port Huron border to Detroit, has anyone been hasselled at the border at all? I know we don't have anything illegal but I'm still nervous!
any tips? let me know

Thanks!

We just came back from flying out of Syracuse, NY, and we were not hassled at the border at all. Both on the way in and on the way out we were only speaking to the agent for about 1 minute.

Relax, answer the questions, and you'll be fine!!! :thumbsup2

Oh, and don't bring any animals, meat or fruit! :teeth:

This past August when driving into the United States at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, we were only asked where my family & I were going? No other questions, did not look at our Passports & we were on our way.

It was the samething going back into Canada. We were asked how long we were gone for, what is total value of items in our car? Also once again we did not have our Passports looked at.

One of my best friends drives to Canada from here at least once a month. She's never had any problems. I think it's more hectic at the US' *other * border.

Just answer the questions asked of you and have your paperwork out and ready to hand over for a looksey if they ask!

We head over FRIDAY!

If you have everything in order (ID) and nothing to hide you should expect no hassles. Think how many families they see driving to Florida every day during the winter? :)

My DD and I went over to Port Huron last Sunday just to shop for the day. I took our passports but never showed them to anyone. They just asked our citizenship on the way in and when we came back they just wanted to know how much we spent and if we had any tobacco or alcohol. I never buy alcohol or tobacco so it was simple. We spent over $100 each and the customs officer could have cared less. We were only over for about 5 hours. I always tell the truth and have the receipts ready just in case but have never had a problem so I wouldn't worry about it.

We cross over to the States at a number of different bridges - Sarnia is one of the best!

We were over in September and didn't have any problems crossing.

It was kind of funny when we were coming back, the border guard was in shock.

She asked for id for everyone and I handed her birth certificates for 3 of my dks and a birth registration letter for 4th dk. She looked at the dates, then looked again, then rubbed her eyes and looked again. Then she looked at me and said, "these are all like a year apart, except for the last one".

My reply "that's right".

She said "wow," and asked what and how much we were bringing back. I told her $500 on kids stuff (toys & clothes). She replied "good for you, have a nice day"

My dks are 4.5, 3.5, 2 and 2 months. She couldn't believe they were all so close in age.

Dks always get us through the border no problem. Since we are usually buying stuff for them, they always seem to let us go, without paying duty. I think they just think we are crazy and need all the help we can get, :rotfl2:

Well we were driving back from Buffalo crossing at the Bridge there. We had just spent one week in WDW and one week cruise. And I did enjoy my shopping. :)Unfortunately we have a smart car. And Dh was so inmpressed that on the way down we got all our luggage and my scooter in the car. Well not only did we have to buy a fold down tote bag (you know the large hockey bag style) we had to figure how to get it in the car. After much effort we took the clothes out of the tote and stuffed them into every available open spot. And I had my scooter basket on the dash and my scooter chair on my lap. I was just praying they would not pull us over for how would we ever get it packed up again. Looked like are lugguage exploded.

Well the Canadian border guard just started laughing at us. Said guess this is not the car to take shopping. I was so relieved. But glad we could bring a smile to her.
