I have been trying to transfer points from my husbands rapid rewards account to mine, but every time I click on transfer points I get some sort of error, this requested resource is not available message. I am going to try calling tomorrow, but was wondering if I am doing something wrong and if anyone had any information on this.
thanks

Transferring is, generally speaking, a terrible idea. Unless you're only need a small amount of points, and the other account only contains a small amount of points, you'll end up spending more by transferring. You'd be better off booking from each individual account, earning the need points through other activity, or just buying the points.

Why is it such a terrible idea? MY DD24 has maybe 1600 points in her account, evn though I book all her stuff on my card, I had to put her points in an acct that I had to pen for here. I was looking at transferring points and during a recent sale, I thought it was only $20 to transfer 2000 pts.(plus you got a bonus 700 pts), vs like $50 to gift them or buy them. Transferring seemed like a better idea, but I guess not, lol!

Hmmm, I did not realize it cost to transfer. I can't really find info about it since I keep getting an error message. I booked flights with my rewards points and we wanted to change the day of the flight, but it will cost more in points than I have in my account. I am guessing I can't use his account for the extra points it would cost for the new flight. Any other suggestions?

If you booked with points on one account, can you book the flight you want on the other account, then cancel the one you have? Or rebook some of your people on your one account, till you run out of points, then book whoever is left on the other acct, using their points as needed? example, if a fam of 4 is flying together, you could book 3 flights on Moms rr acct, and 1 flight on dads, and still travel together...without having to transfer any points....I do it all the time, since my DH and I both have points it just involves keeping track who is booked under which account.... Or consider if it's cheaper to pay the extra oop to switch to a different flight vs. paying to transfer pts.

To quote my own message, "Unless you're only need a small amount of points, and the other account only contains a small amount of points...." Yes, if your daughter has only a few points and will not likely earn more, and if you only need a small amount of points, then you might be better off transferring. Transferring points costs 1¢ per point, while buying costs 2.75¢. When you transfer, you automatically lose a third of their value. Plus, you can earn miles by buying flowers at almost the same rate as buying directly from Southwest. If you're going to spend the money, you might as well get something out of it.

Okay, now I am thinking, thank you. I think it might make more sense to change 2 of the flights using my own account. Then cancel 2, and rebook with my husband's account. That makes much more sense and involves 0 transferring! Do I get all the points back? And I paid for EBCI, would I get that back for the 2 I have to cancel? I know the ones I change will carry over, according to a rep I just spoke with anyway.

Now trying to figure out if I can cancel the flights. They were booked on Wanna get away fare. Can I cancel and rebook? Finding conflicting information.

Yes ... you will get *all* the points back.

If a SWA reservation has EBCI and you *cancel* the reservation ...the EBCI is lost.

If a SWA reservation has EBCI and you *change* the reservation ...the EBCI is *not* lost.

I do not know how you can retain the EBCI in your situation ... because you are changing the RR account.

*Maybe* call SWA reservations and ask ... if they can do it.

Or this might be a *situation* that it might be best to call a SWA Customer Service Rep (214 932-0333)

because they have more options to fix a reservation than the SWA Reservation agents.

Thank you. I will try the other number. I will be changing 2 flights and canceling and rebooking 2 under a different RR#, so I will retain 2 ECBI and have to pay for 2 more. I will try the rep # just to see if they can do anything for me, but still less than my original thought to transfer points (of course I had not done enough research and thought that was without a cost). DH would like 1 more day so we can "take it slower in the parks", but not sure taking it slower works for me in Disney, but I will try!

I agree with him ... (now-a-days) I need a off-day ~ in between park days ... to relax & recharge.

SWA Customer Relations (214 932-0333) ... 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday CST.

Hmm, that's interesting. Is there a limit to the minimum amount of points I can transfer? I'll probably leave them there for now, but interesting info to know anyway. Thank you, supersnoop!
