Tropicana

We stayed at the Homewood our last trip. Loved the large rooms and kitchen. We generally took Uber into the parks in the mornings ($6) and use the Toy Story shuttle to get back and forth in the afternoon/evenings. The free breakfast was nice and much better that what you get at Best Western Park Place Inn. I've also done Tropicana. If I had kids and therefore Uber wasn't an option, I would do BWPPI or Tropicana. BWPPI would win out if you wanted free breakfast. But, I generally grab something at La Brea or Starbucks vs. eating the BWPPI breakfast.

We stayed at Tropicana in February. The location is great and the Cove is handy for buying breakfast items. I didn't think the room was the greatest. It was clean, but well-worn and not in good repair. There were a few annoying but not huge problems - bathroom door was hard to close, light switch didn't always work. The in-room coffee was just, ew. I might consider staying there again if the rooms were refurbed. In November, we're staying at the Homewood Suites and using the Toy Story shuttle for the first time. I like the size of the room (2 queens and a sofa) since our boys are adults and need their own beds. I'm also looking forward to the free breakfast, which gets good reviews.
I believe the Tropicana did room updates this spring. You can call them to check.

Which Homewood Suites are you referring to that has the Toy Story shuttle near it?

Desert Inn and Suites is our go to hotel for closeness. It is right at the crosswalk to the Harbor side entrance. They have a basic breakfast included (cereal, oatmeal, bagels, fruit, harboiled eggs). The rooms are basic but clean. If you book far enough out you can sometimes get below $100 a night (we booked for Veteran's Day weekend back in the Spring and are right at $100 a night but have got down as low as $89 a night on off season). Being so close especially with kids is an absolute must for us. Nice knowing that you don't have a long walk (or wait for a shuttle) after a long day on your feet.
