My FI (soon to be DH) and I are going in august for our honeymoon. Is any one else worried by all the prediction about a "bad" year for hurricanes and the appearance of a tropical storm in the gulf already? :umbrella:

Please just tell me it is my wedding nerves going to my head... I really don't want to have to cancel our honeymoon :confused3

Sorry I can't ease your fears. Those of us who live down here in Florida can't believe that we're suffering from the remnants of a tropical storm already. It was storming something fierce this morning here. I belive we didn't see one last year until the very end of July so this is early. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. The only thing I can tell you is not to spend too much time worrying about it. Last year was a strange year hurricane wise and hopefully we don't see a repeat this year.

I agree with cjsmith, don't worry about it. If there is a storm or hurricane just hope that you are already down there. We were at WL for Frances and the CM's a the WL were great. We even went to the parks the day before it hit and no crowds, we had a great time. Good luck and have fun. We will be going this September and in two years will be moving down there.

we are to come down end of september into october..and i am worried about the weather...they have said that this year is going to be busier than last year ...and all these hurricanes will become normal...i guess they said that we have been in a type of .oh i dont know what the word was but they meant that we have had less hurricanes in the past so many years and that now we are coming out of that...

Yes, it's an overall pattern change. Among the reasons is that the South Atlantic water temperatures have been much warmer than normal the last two years, leading to more tropical development than if the water is cooler than normal..

BUT....even if it is an active hurricane season that doesn't mean any or all of them will hit Central Florida.

We have lots of friends and relatives in Florida and as Carolyn said above, it has been a nerve-wracking ten months beginning when Charley hit.

We certainly hope that Florida escapes the wrath of nature this summer and fall.

Bob

The whole hurricane thing does cause nervousness. (IL's JUST moved to Orlando and are in a trailer this summer. FIL is pretty frail. Wish they would have waited on the move.)
Re: the wedding. I'm sure a gazillion people have told you this...a beautiful wedding is what you have dreamed of and I hope you have no problems, but it is the marriage that counts. Not in Disney (of course), but there was a bad snow storm the day before I got married. Caused a bunch of problems. Some are kind of funny now. Happily married 12 1/2 years.

I sure hope this is not the start of something bad! :umbrella: :umbrella:

I don't want my free food delivered from FEMA!!!!!!

Precisely why I did not book labor Day weekend. last year we rescheduled three times and still ended up haviing to come home early. It's just too disappointing. Add that to the fact that we live down here and were in fear for our lives and property. Yes, it's raining now.....

My hope and prayers are, if the predictions of a more active season are right, that the majority of the storms stay off in the Atlantic. All of my family lives in New Orleans and while I don't want to see any bad storms hit that area (or anywhere) , God forbid Florida see any more!!! I just can't see the people in FL going through any more bad hurricanes!

As for my trip it's in September. And while there is some concern I'm just hoping that we won't have to reschedule. I'm taking it day by day.

Take Care
Jamie

Will we all fit in the underground tunnels? Don't worry about your honeymoon. I know people that had wonderful tropical honeymoons and they're divorced. If it's bad weather atleast you'll be in a room with magic. I'm making light of the situation because I'll be there in late sept/early oct also.

Looks like we are arriving the same week, Sept 15-21. I will be at POR, so we will be neighboors!

I was down there in between Frances and Jeanne, I think. We left the day before Jeanne hit. For everyone that lives in and around Florida we are really praying that you have a safe season this year. They say weather goes in patterns, and coming from Indiana we see a lot of tornadoes. Last year was really bad, but this season was very calm, so let's hope it's the same with Florida and hurriance season.

Of course we all hope that Florida escapes the wrath of any hurricanes this season, the people there have suffered more than their share. From other posts it sounds like Disney steps up during any hurricanes and handles things with minimal inconvenience, so don't worry too much about your honeymoon. However....maybe Disney should offer a general code to entice people :rolleyes1 (hey.....it's worth a shot)

Florida's missing this storm, but getting some of the rain.

It is very likely the storm will pass directly over the Florida panhandle near the area very hard hit last September by Ivan, so not sure where you got your info that Florida would be missed by the storm.

While it won't help the poor folks who live there, and it won't prevent problems from occurring, travel insurance sure gives many people peace of mind during hurricane season. It's not worth it, to me, but many folks prefer to have someone else help deal with any unfortunate events.

We leave in two weeks and I'm really worried about the weather. Never been to Disney and I hope the weather is pretty good. Even if its raining can you still do things at the parks? Let's pray for sunny weather! :sunny: :sunny:

we are getting soaked here in south fla.we have had alot of rain and wind! its unbelievable- too early for this I say!! you should see daily afternoon thunderstorms in central fla the month of June- as long as there isnt any lightening you should be okay to walk around. Just be careful I cant believe all the tourists we saw last 4th walking around with thunder and lightening in the parks! we take shelter till its over.

By saying Florida was going to miss this storm, I mean central Fl. As of 1:00pCDT it was 20mi SSE of Gulf Shores AL. THAT IS WHAT WEATHER.COM SAID, That is The Weather Channel.

Unfortunately, most of the hurricanes that hit this area (we are about 100 miles SW from Orlando) seem to come in August or September. DH's b-day is in Sept and we have often had to postpone due to tragedies. There was Sept 11 and several hurricanes over the last few years. Our family just hasn't been in the mood to celebrate when so many others are suffering. Fortunately, we have been very blessed that we have not been hit directly in the Tampa Bay area since Elaina in 1986. I hope we stay lucky this year. We are stocking up on batteries, bottled water and canned food just in case.
