Tropical Storm Watch 2007 (2) Hurricane Dean

I am sorry to say the track does look like its going near Barbados. :sad1:
If you look at the map on the first posring, the string of islands running from South America up towards Puerto Rico are the Lesser Antilles. Just to theright in the middle of these is Barbados.
On the current version of the map, where the white area finishes is where Barbados is. It will by the looks of it go north of Barbados, but will come very close between 8am Friday and 8am saturday with the winds hitting the island. The Saturday "H" seems to be right on top of Guadeloupe. The "H" by the way stands for Hurricane winds.

Thanks Obi, oh dear it is not looking too good for them then at the moment is it, I do hope its not too bad and that they and anybody else in the path of this storm stays safe:hug:

Im not very good reading these sort of things, but I have friends right now on holiday in Barbados, is that in the path of the Storm??

Although we havent had an official Hurricane warning issued by the government (this will be done 24 hrs before impact if its oncourse to hit) we are being advised through maritime and weather stations to expect a severe storm if not a hurricane if it strengthens.

The hope is that the current path will shift although its behaving unpredictably right now. Barbados is structurally very secure, all hotels are hurricane approved and will have safe areas as we do here. We are on exactly the same latitiude as Barbados but 100 miles west so are watching exactly the same path.

If it does hit your friends will be safe, there will be plenty of warning and everybody is well prepared as we all know about this storm already. Even if the hurricane - as its predicted to be by then- does pass north and hit the Virgin Islands/Antigua/Anguilla area Barbados will still experience storm conditions with high winds and rain.

So does Dean look like its going to miss Florida then?:confused3

They are nasty little blighters Hurricanes. You just dont know.
the map has now updated to show it now on a track south of yesterday. this could take it into teh Gulf of Mexico and where it then goes is anybodys guess, they have been known to turn right and blast over Florida back out into the Atlantic, or go straight on into jnew orleans/Texas (Texas by the way has its own TS, TS5 heading into the bottom end of the state at the moment)
Just to put the map on this page, you can see the track has changed overnight.

Thanks....fingers crossed it will skip florida ...seeing as we are flying out Monday...knowing my luck it will head straight to florida and my flight will be cancelled...:scared: ...Oh well..I wanted to lose a few pounds before free dining..so stressing over this for the next 5 days will see to that.;)

Oh just remembered Summer Caitlin is getting married at WDW on the 20th...is it not likely to have reached Orlando at that point..?....I hope it all goes OK for her.

Hey, if your flight gets cancelled, you could end up on our flight! We go on Tuesday! I'm not worrying until about Sunday, when it will be close enough to make a more educated guess as to where it's next move might be!

this is getting depressing now .... on every advisory they keep saying that they expect it to shift W/NW (ie - away from us) but every advisory also states its not doing that at all and is staying on the West direction more southerly than they thought...

which is right at us. The maps are still forecasting a turn - in reality its not doing that.

we dont even have any shops on this little island so cant even buy boards to go over our windows or supplies or anything. We are truly at the mercy of these things when an island is as small as this. Barbados and St Lucia will do much better and have safety and resources behind them.

yikes

Now heading straight for Jamaica!

Just wanted to tell you I'm thinking about you. I can only imagine how bad it must feel in your position.

thanks - thats very kind of you. Only when you've experienced something like Ivan to an island - with no resources, 90% of homes destroyed .... it gives it a far more sobering realism to it.

crossing fingers for all CAribbean islands right now, all will be badly affected if this does tuen out to be a biggy.

Any up-dates. so sorry for anyone in its path. We fly into Orlando tomorrow and it seems the storm is to miss Florida. I was worried about our disney cruise next thurdsay but your forecast map has it missing the Bahamas too.

It does not look good for Texas.

Hi Susan,
The map on each page showing thetrack updates itself when changes comefrom the NOAA.
It may or may not miss Floirida, it depends what it does when it enters the Gulkd of Mexico. the last Hurricane to actually hit around Orlando, came from the Gulf after it had entrered form the same way, so you just need to keep an eye on it. the good thing is that its a fast moving storm, not one that sits there pouring rain and winds over the countries for long times.
Its too early to0 see hwt track it will take in the Gulf.

the villa rental companies are well used to this sort of thing there should be no need to move :)

try not to worry xx x

Gosh, I hope everything for those in its path doesn't get too bad. This will be rather annoying if it hits since we travel through Dallas on monday:sad1:. I hope everyone who is going soon isn't too affected either

I hope it doesnt. Fingers crossed for you all. x

looks like its not going to hit florida.

I hope it doesn't disrupt your holidays!

Does anyone know how soon huricanes can be predicted?

We are going in 2 weeks and 5 days and are starting to look out for any movement in that time???

They normally start out as a Tropical wave over near Africa. NOAA starts to watch them about a week out from the US coast.
This will give you an idea Lora
