Tropical Storm Fay - TUESDAY 11 AM UPDATE in post #1

Thanks for all the info.

We are supposed to be arriving at Disney's Vero Beach on Tuesday. I have to say I am a little nervous.

we are in the same boat as you, it's not looking to good for anyone traveling into Orlando on Tuesday, still haven't cancelled as i'm going to sit tight until tomorrow at noon time and make the decision then

We're renewing our vows on Monday at the Wedding Gazebo outside. Just let the rain hold off til Monday at 2pm!

Congrats 10 yrs DH and I celebrated 10 last Oct. at Poly. I hope the rain will hold off for you. Good Luck and many more :thumbsup2

Thanks Jim for watching out for us :worship: . I can now stay on the Dis and watch Fay :surfweb: . I'm also in Florida I live in Davie. again Thanks :goodvibes

When we lived in Orlando (1996-2002), I used to remind my worried mother that all evacuation routes lead to Orlando. :)

We'd moved out of state by the time the four-'cane summer hit. The worst we had was the worry over Hurricane Floyd in 1999 (I was on the last flight IN and from the plane, I could see headlights headed in from the coast on the Beeline as far as the eye could see) and a tropical storm in Sep 2001 that flooded our pool three times in three hours. A lot of rain, some wind, but nothing devastating, and once it was done, it was DONE. Here's hoping Fay will skate across the same way and move on!

Which will create a "no occupancy" sign for anyone wanting to come in a day or two early to WDW (especially since they were already booked to capacity for August already!).

I called Vero Beach resort today, and they told me they have had a few cancellations. She told me they are allowing cancellations with no penalties and full refunds. She reminded me that the beach and pool would be closed if it is raining and storming and windy. I just don't know if I should cancel. :confused3

Don't cancel anything until you absolutely HAVE to. You risk absolutely nothing by waiting.

We still don't know where this thing is going. Sit tight over the weekend and take another look on Monday.

Jim is right don't cancel :thumbsup2 . Just keep a close eye on his thread.

How many days are you going to be in Vero? Are you driving or flying?

There has not been a change in the official forecast, but the 2 PM models all shifted 150-200 miles to the left (away from WDW), so the 5 PM forecast could reflect that shift.

However, the models for this system have been fluctuating like that for two weeks. This has really been a crazy system to watch.

I don't really expect the NHC to change their projected track much until they get confirmation of that shift, and that won't come until tomorrow. It might come as a result of the 8 AM model runs, but they might also wait until the afternoon to get a hurricane-hunter aircraft into the storm to really get solid info.

They'll err on the side of caution, because the storm may be close to Key West by that point, and they don't want people to relax and find themselves in trouble.

Monday was going to be the first day of school here in Davie, Florida. It looks like Fay is on the kids side. School has been canceled. This is the reaction from my kids :cool1:  :dance3: :woohoo: :yay:

Well that's encouraging news...let's hope for some disney Magic...Just how strong do the winds have to be blowing to cause MCO to close? I haven't seen that posted anywhere

Thanks

Well, it serves me right for posting that they wouldn't change the track! :rotfl2:

They did. The NHC moved the track a little west, which reduces the expected impact on WDW and especially Vero.

However, in the same breath, they rightly say that even a miniscule change in the storm's course could change the landfall and effects greatly. One of the important facts not to lose track of is that the entire Florida peninsula has a greater than 50% likelihood of tropical storm force winds.

Stay tuned for the Monday AM info.

Hopefully it will be good news...although I'm not sure what good news would be. I'm starting to believe that consistency -- even if it's right over my house -- would be the best possible news! The problem is, this storm just isn't consistent.

We arrive from NJ around 10am on Wednesday. So far Spirit air only has concerns until tuesday and that does not include Orlando Intl. So I am hoping. Also www.weather.com and www.accuweather.com show partly sunny weather for Wed. So here is hoping. :worship:

We're flying Spriit on Thurs am. I'm hoping they stay on schedule. I hate losing that first day.

How many days are you going to be in Vero? Are you driving or flying?

We are driving. We are actually already here in Florida. We are staying in Satellite Beach... so only about 45 minutes from Vero. We are arriving tomorrow and leaving Friday.

I think we made the right decision. It seems like the worst of the storm hits Orlando very early Wednesday morning. We're driving down today and will be there tomorrow morning.:cool1:

Here's some pixiedust: for all those travelling and trying to avoid the storm!
