Tropical Storm Emily?!

I just want it to keep on moving and be gone by early next week. We will be flying on Monday and I don't want bad weather to make me hate the flight even more than usual.

My definition of chilly: Going to US in 50 degree weather and being on Dr. Suess elevated trolley when sudden February rainstorm kicks in and you are stuck there as cold beating rain is coming down sideways, and you're ducking. Then the trolley is a a hairpin turn and rain is beating you from the other side.......and I'm talking hard rain that's actually forming puddles at the knees of your jeans as you sit. You're trying to hang on until the trolley car gets back to the station.......and it stops. No, not the rain. The trolley car comes to a dead stop and your's is the only trolley out there. Cold? You betcha! We had to scream at people ducked in doorways under us and finally someone must've gone to the trolley station to tell what was going on. Finally our trolley started moving again. I swear all the attendants were looking away as we got off.....except for the one who actually motioned us off. Poor girl looked like she'd seen a ghost. I'd tell you how uncomfortable we were walking through City Walk to the parking garage, but just suffice it to say we had to purchase beach towels to dry off before getting into the car.......and turning the heat on!

now thats something you will look back on and laugh for years to come!!! :lmao::lmao:

Yes, especially since we were there with our adult children and were just riding it because we'd never had a chance on previous trips.

I'm more concerned about the safety and welfare of Floridians who have to endure the adversity of Tropical Storm Emily than how the weather affects my alterable vacation itinerary.

I really take offense to that. Just b/c people are concerned about TS Emily in terms of their vacation does not mean that those same people wouldn't be concerned about Floridians. Why would you make that leap? Also, why would you assume that vacation plans are alterable? Mine aren't. My husband and I own a clinic that services special needs children. We work seven days a week, holidays, 18 hour days all year round. We get ONE vacation a year b/c our being gone has an effect on the lives of those children. Please excuse me for being concerned about the one week out of the year that my husband and I have time to relax and not worry and spend some quality time with our family.

This IS largely a vacation based board. It's where people talk about their vacation. It's not very nice to throw a guilt trip out there b/c you are making assumptions that are totally unfair and unfounded.

You somehow took the original meaning of my message totally out of context, then made defensive and baseless accusations to justify your own incorrect assumptions and misconceptions. Let's get a few facts straight here. First, I never "assumed" that YOUR vacation plans can be changed. I clearly said that MY vacation itinerary was alterable. I also unmistakably said that I AM concerned about Floridians impacted by the weather. Nowhere did I say or even imply that others are not concerned. Perhaps you can enlighten us all and explain exactly which of my assumptions are "unfair and unfounded". It's rather obvious who is making all the assumptions here. Incidentally, we are visiting our family in Boca Raton next week, and they are directly affected by the impending storm. I suggest that in the future you save the argumentative retorts for someone more deserving of your misdirected animosity.

My college son lives over in that area too, so keeping an eye on things. We, ourselves, are lucky to be living closer to the Orlando area, so won't be affected by this much at all.

Maybe if you had provided this much detail to begin with, no one would have made assumptions. From my perspective, I read your original post in much the same way.

My thoughts, prayers and concerns are always for those individuals affected by any storm. I hope that your son will be safe. Fortunately the storm is currently not expected to be upgraded to hurricane strength, and wind speeds in the greater Miami area are estimated to be between 45 to 50 mph by this weekend according to NOAA. Here are 2 links pertaining to TS Emily: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT5+shtml/021450.shtml,

It looks like they still expect it to stay relatively weak and veer away. Here's hoping that this is true!

Thanks for the links. I've been following all their updates for two days and the latest from 8pm says Emily has now stalled and wind hasn't exceeded 50mph. I know the original time of effect to southern Florida was something like 2am Saturday morning, but now is not until 8am on Sat. Odd thing the other day here......driving along and saw 3 rain storms going in the distance, and honestly looked like there was one over each of 3 of the Disney parks. Rain happens, but if you're on vacation you make the best of it. The only times they shut down any attractions at any of the parks is when lightning is in the area. You just keep going and make the best of it.

My concern for those Floridians impacted by the developing weather conditions simply overshadowed my own personal vacation agenda. I cannot predict the manner in which a presumptuous or unenlightened individual may misinterpret my well presented postulations.

no animosity...I just thought that your response seemed snarky and slightly out of place to the topic of the thread. That's all. If you had been implying that those of us worried about rain during our vacations were being selfish for not thinking of Floridians instead of ourselves (which is how I read it)...that would have been unfair and unfounded for you to assume. As that doesn't appear to be the case then I must have misinterpreted your comment, which is easy to do on a message board as we have no facial expressions or voice inflection to help us decode the meaning of the words.

hope your vacation is AWESOME. :thumbsup2

It certainly is frustrating to have your carefully planned vacation disrupted by the weather. We're also watching the storm develop on a day-by-day basis and we will have to determine if our trip needs to be rescheduled. The extended forecast calls for rain/t-storms over the next 7 days. I never intended to imply that the plight of Floridians is more important than your travel plans. The meaning of my original post was that my concern for those affected by the storm simply overshadowed my own personal vacation agenda. Our family member in Boca Raton has been closely monitoring the developing storm and does not seem too worried. I guess that he has been through enough previous hurricanes and tropical storms to know which ones are worthy of concern. I hope your trip is unaffected by the weather.

Didn't you think that the people running the ride, who are trained on the ride, who have computer systems that tell them where the trains are and have cameras all over the tracks would have known about the stopped train? The guest you yelled at didn't have to tell the ride employees that you were stopped, they were well aware of it. At least no one dialed 911 like someone did on Forbidden Journey.

As of this morning, tropical storm emily's path does not look like its going to effect the orlando area at all.

Day by day it keeps shifting east.

... that could change

When it comes to the weather forecasters predicting hurricanes the past few years I would not put my faith in anything still that far out still.;)
