That about wraps up all my emotions. The weather guy on WeatherUnderground also thinks this could intensify. However, the Hurricane center feels it won't... at least not that much.

What is going to suck is that the first day of school is suppose to be on Monday. I've been waiting all summer for that day, now it might be interrupted.

Great, I'll be returning from Tenn. NEXT Thursday, maybe???? Just in time for the storm or following it.

Guess oldest DS will be doing the shuttering along with his friend, without me, if it does get worse.

As for the one who's son will be happy with the name.....my son's best friend is a Chris, and my son is a Gordon (also on the list this year). My son wants one with his name, but of course, wants it to just hang out in the ocean before going away.

OP, my DS's name is Ivan. He was 9 when Hurricane Ivan struck and he didn't have a clue as to the devastation that a hurricane could cause.

He thought it was cool that not only did it have his name, but it circled around and hit twice.

Then, we took him to WDW a few months later. That's when he saw what I had been talking about... the trees that were damaged or down, the roofing that was still off many buildings, even at WDW, etc. I think that was an eye-opener for him and while he still thinks that it was cool that his name was used, he also wishes that it had gone off to sea and not damaged anyone's property.

This really gave him a perspective that he didn't have before. When Rita and Katrina hit last year, he was wide-eyed and kept talking about how bad he felt for the people in those areas that were hit/devastated.

I hope "Chris" stays out at sea. That'll give your DS better bragging rights if it doesn't do any damage on shore.

The following Sat. August 12-15th and I am suppose to be flying out....if there is an Airport left to fly out from, last year FLL had some BIG damage from one of the Storms.

Chris has formed from Tropical Depression 3, and the forecast was adjusted up, but currently keeps it at a Tropical Storm for the length. This is due to uncertainty in the future path, ie some shear, or land interaction would keep it low, and poor earlier model initialization.

Most models don't show strengthening at all, this is due to a pair of Upper level low pressure areas ahead of the system, which generally would cause a great deal of shear and keep the storm in check or weaken (or even dissapate it). It would have to thread the needle to not be affected by the shearing of the two lows.

I fly out this Thursday to Tenn., to return next Thursday (10th)-Ft. Lauderdale.

My sister will be returning from her trip up there Tuesday (8th)-Ft. Lauderdale, because she has to start back to school (a teacher) that Thursday.

IF it's the 12th you may want to hold out and see what happens. But, with these storms that sure is a hard call.

I like this scenrio the best.........................well, other than just not having anything out there, but we know that won't happen.

Even more reason not to cancel your trip. By the time it's done, you can head to Disney (drive if you have to) have power, AC and fun.
