They are watching an area of interest near the Lesser Antilles. No developement to speak of yet but Good Grief!!! :(

Okay do you know what I wanna know, what happened to X, Y, and Z?

I was talking to my Christine last night (MickeysSunshine) and she wasn't sure.

I mean,

Xena
Yasmin
Zander
??????

Oh wait she said X had to be a male so...... Xavier????

Thats prejudice against X, Y, Z, isn't it?

i can't ever remember the hurricane names starting over again with a.

They have to use the names decided on by an international symposium, so XYZ names might be difficult for some. Q and U are also not in the hurricane alphabet. Also, they were basing the choices on the previous record number: 21. The rule is, if they run out of names, they go to the Greek alphabet.

There are some letters they never use and some names that aren't on the list either. Mine, Roberta, is one. :( Perhaps one day enought R names will be retired for them to add me to the list. Not that I'm really hoping for that of course.

As for using the Greek alphabet, that's never happened. This truly is a record breaking season.

It's never happened. I think this year is now tied for sheer numbers with 1933, when they didn't name hurricanes. One more and the record is broken.

Before this season, the furthest they ever got with named hurricanes was T (Hurricane Tanya in 1995).

If that is Alpha, it better not mess with my Halloween plans.

I'm hoping that it won't develop into anything. This season has been crazy!

9yodd just asked me about Wilma and what we would name the next one...I told her ALPHA. I guess that is right?

You are correct, Mystery Machine. According to the National Hurricane Center's list of Hurricane Names, they skip the letters Q,U,X,Y,and Z. So, with that in mind, if that spot of low pressure does develop into anything, it would be a name from the first letter of the Greek alphabet, namely Alpha. Wouldn't that be uncharted territory? A definite first if it happens!!!!!! :umbrella:

Yep, dont use q,u,x,y,z. They now go to Greek alphabet. Never ever gotten there. Future alpha looks could and is developing nicely. I will post thread and start issueing forecasts sunday... lol! Keeping busy for sure with my internship. Looks this will affect eastern caribbean and will eventually recurve out to sea more then likely. We will see though. So I am wodering if we will get to Beta now. Amazing!

Matt

keep us posted Matt! Thanks again for all your hard work! Weather underground also had it going out to sea on early models (fingers and toes crossed here in Bama' :) )

Heeeeeeeere's Alpha! Mercifully, it looks like it shouldn't pose a threat to the US mainland. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are in for lots of rain and wind though.

I don't remember ever getting by T before, at least not in the past few years but I too don't think we've ever gone through all of the names!! They don't use UXYZ are there aren't that many names to use.

I hope Alpha stays out to sea for everyone!!! This has been one heck of a season and there's still one more month to go!!!!
