Can you use the small trolley cases as hand luggage (the little ones with a handle to pull it along!!)
I was under the impression you couldnt, but on our last trip there were lots of people with these, i have been looking at the 18 inch ones
Thanks :)

Depends which airline you are travelling with the US carriers are more receptive to these as they are used alot in the US not so sure about Uk carriers though, but as long as they meet the stricter hand luggage weights/sizes should be ok.

Providing the caes is within the specific airline's weight/size restrictions, there is no problem using a trolley bag with any scehduled airline (unless maybe you are flying a tiny propeller plane and it wont fit into their overheads - in which case they gate check your torolley bag).

Have been using a small trolley bag for hand luggage for the past 10 years and have NEVER had a problem with it (on Virgin, BA, various US and European carriers) no matter where in the world I have travelled. I don't fly charter airlines, so don't know if they have different rules.

Below is the max size for VA hand luggage,

You are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage onto the plane. This must be able to fit under the seat in front of you, which means it must not be larger than 23cm x 36cm x 56cm (9in x 14in x 22 in) and should not weigh more than 6kg (13lbs).

So it looks like you should be ok for size its just the weight of it before anything goes in it that may be quite alot.

Only problem was with Virgin in PE as the overhead lockers are smaller than normal and the trolley bags don't tend to fit. They will kepp them at the back of the cabin for you but it can catch you out if you are not ready with a carrier bag to carry the stuff to the seats that you want (especially important for a quick get out on arrival at MCO to avoid being at the back of the long lines at immigration)

My DDs always use trolley cases (usually Disney ones) and I use the one from my suitcase set. We've never had any problems taking them on board or fitting them in th e overhead lockers on Virgin or BA. They are all within approved hand luggage dimensions :)

Dimensions of 14"x18"x6" have been quoted to me by MyTravel (other charter airlines are likely to be similar) with a maximum weight of 5kg for hand luggage, allowing for the weight of the case empty that is not a lot of stuff, a holdall or large handbag would hold more.

Thanks for the info, we are flying with Virgin, so am i right in thinking the 18" trolley case is ok then??
I am hoping to have my wedding dress boxed so that i can carry it on the plane, I think it is the same dimensions, but weight was not mentioned in the wedding info!! I better check that out, dont want to let it out of my sight!! and DD can have a trolley case for all other bits, DF has back pack,
